Iron Dawn: Corvolt -- Interest Check

As I mentioned in my introduction post, I've been working on my own book, and side story that runs along side it. Since I enjoy role-playing, I thought it would be interesting to take a piece of my universe and share it with whoever decides to join.

I have about four hundred or so years worth of events that span across multiple sheets of paper up until the beginning of my book. Which means, I have a lot of history that is just blank space. Currently, I'm running a table top variant of my book with a group of my friends, which takes place one year prior to my book actually starting, and my side story (which I will have up on my blog when I get around to it) also runs a year prior to my book.

Now, I've been lurking around these forums and I can tell you that I'm quite interested in having some fellow role-players help expand, potentially influence some of my universe, while I won't publish the entire role-play as it's own short story, or novel, I can say that character's and event's will play major parts.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't mind having it populated with characters I didn't create, after awhile, my characters start to seem like the next.


Humanity, as far as it knew, was alone in the universe, allowing them to expand past the Moon, even past Mars. The Protectorate stretched light-years away from it's home world. All of this was possible with the recent discovery of faster than light travel. Which closed the distance between worlds from thousands of years, to months.

It has been fifty years since the colonization of Planet Corvolt, a planet as lush, and diverse as Earth itself. The population of the planet had since spiked to five million people. The relatively peaceful population continues to expand, and grow, centering itself around the largest, and first, city.

The District of Corvolt. The District, as it is commonly known.

The city is centered around a large circular star port, allowing a wide range of commercial and militaristic ships an easy and direct route to the port for quick docking. From there, the city grows outwards into a market ring, which completely surrounds the star port. Naturally, this allows for captain's, and their crew members time to gather the supplies they need in order to leave within a couple of days.

Next, you have the entertainment ring, covering one half of the circle, while the other half is the government ring. The entertainment ring is set up in an slightly familiar fashion (familiar for people who live or came from Earth, that is) as the Los Vegas strip, and would be considered the brightest part of the city at night.

Immediately after, you have the residential ring, then the farming and industrial communities laying on the furthest rung of the circle. The transport system is a monorail that runs from the outer most circle to connecting rail lines, which lead all the way to a station in the center most ring. At most times, the transport system has two bullet trains running, in order to effectively move people around the city quickly, and safely.

January 23rd, 2679 AD, and word has spread throughout the colonies of Corvolt that a massive Protectorate Fleet, the 15th Fleet, has since reached planetary orbit, under the guise of providing protection to the planet and it's populace.


Somethings I probably should have covered in the intro-post, and would be common knowledge for everyone.

Iron Dawn -- Religion

Christianity, as we know it today, has been replaced by the "Church of the Zodiac", which is a twelve member council, each member representing one of the twelve zodiacs. There are cults which base themselves around a monotheistic society, or pre-Zodiac religion, however these cults are few and far between.

Iron Dawn -- The Protectorate of Sol, Council, Corporations

The Government system of Iron Dawn is a 'Commonwealth' so-to-speak. Each planet that is under the Protectorate has one Representative for an entire planet, as well as a Representative for the Military, Intelligence Directory Committee (However, the IDC does not exist during this role-play), and Corporations. During 2670 - 2680, there are a total number of forty Councilors.

A Major corporation that has a monopoly on Militaristic goods, and equipment would be Victoria Industries, originally known as Marnet Incorporated. Marnet Incorporated was founded in 2626 by Victoria Marnet, and she officially changed the name in 2627.

The current CEO, as of this Role-play, is Victoria's daughter Lena Marnet.

Four World Wars

I went as far back as I could (American Civil War, that is) to come up with the United Socialist States of America, which was founded immediately after the Civil War ended, with the victory of the Confederation.

World War I, and World War II, still happened in exactly the same fashion. (IE: Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand being killed, and Adolf Hitler coming to power.) World War III, took place between what we know as Vietnam, and ended during the occupation of Iraq with the Russians. (To give a brief time-line.)

World War IV was the longest war, having started in the year 2050, and officially ending in 2150, with the fall of the United Nations, and the rise of the Protectorate of Sol.

History between 2150 to 2600, I haven't actually written down yet, so I don't really have any important information here.

From the year 2601, to 2620, France was the last remaining free country. Having survived on advancement in technology, and trade with terrorists (Known as the Brotherhood of Civilization) who opposed the Protectorate. France officially fell in 2620 when the Protectorate launched a massive invasion on multiple fronts. Every French citizen was called into action to protect the country.

Notable Events

2624 A Martian colony is infected with a new type of virus, that kills a hundred or so colonists. However, determined to stop the virus from spreading further, the Colony Government issued that all airlocks were to be open. No survivors were found. (Mars had yet to be terra-formed.)

2634 the Eiffel Tower is destroyed in a terrorist attack, no one was killed, while simultaneously another attack took place at the Golden Gate Bridge, killing hundreds.

2640 was the beginning of the Vinci Rebellion, a bloodless rebellion that lasted eight years in protest to new laws that limited the production of Art.


Well, I hope that was enough information. Anyways, tell me what you folks think, and I hope this can be started up sometime! Also, I should mention, I have a specific ending that I would like to reach, but that can be discussed when the time comes.

Your background and world sound really nicely fleshed out. But, you don't tell us what the plot or story-line might be that the characters might play in.

Maybe by giving a general idea of what will be happening in the story more folks would be interested.

Fair point, it was four in the morning my time when I was writing that, so I probably forgot it.

General Idea/Plot:

A majority of the population isn't worried about the 15th Fleet being in stationary orbit, as it is customary for Protectorate Fleets to stop at this planet for shore leave, and war games. However, a group of civil rights activists, and conspiracy theorists (who the players can play if they want) believe something more is going on, since this particular fleet is well known for it's high-end arsenal.

It's up to the players, to either get to the bottom of what is going on, either by listening and accepting what these conspiracy theorists are saying, find out what is going on, and try to stop it before what ever happens, happens. Or just ignore the situation all together and continue life as it were.

I am interested. Can you give me a basic idea of what kind of technology is regularly used?

I haven't fully went into the type of technology yet, though there is a ban on Cybernetics, they still use ballistic weaponry, and they've discovered FTL (Faster than light) travel. Oh, and I think I've written in somewhere a space elevator or two.
