Not that it totally have to be an either or. But I'd say science since I can't say I really believe in any of the religions I've heard about. And considering we have religious studies in school I've at least learnt a lot about the five major ones.

What do you think about abortion? Is that a human right? Or is that killing?

Human right, unless a woman keeps getting pregnant on 'purpose' (read: conciously not using any protection, because, for example 'it doesn't feel as good') and then constantly says she has no room for the child in her life right now, as she wants to party a lot or some other idiotic reasoning. I think it's important the option to undergo an abortion exists (as it's legal in The Netherlands) because otherwise there would be a lot more children who'd have a crappy life, because the parents aren't able to offer the kid what it needs to have in other to lead a good and healthy life and grow up like any child has the right to. Or for example, when someone's pregnant as a result from a rape: I can imagine why women would want to undergo abortion in that situation. So yes, human right. And wtf killing? We kill people every freaking day, but then we just call it 'safety protection' on some vague grounds. Yet that's okay.

If you'd ever 'convert' to a religion, what religion would it be?

I'm already a practicing Christian, and I couldn't imagine converting to another religion. I don't really consider Christianity a true "religion" but rather a living, breathing relationship with God. So many "religions," such as Islam, Hinduism, etc. require people to do certain things or do a certain number of good works to earn salvation. Christianity, however, teaches that Jesus already took care of that by dying on the cross for our sins. It's been such a part of my life since I was a child that I couldn't imagine not having that promise.

DISCLAIMER: I'm in no way trying to beat people over the head with my beliefs or shove a Bible down anyone's throat. I can't tell you how many horrors stories I've heard about such instances. I know religion is often a very personal matter, and I've had really great conversations with people of other religions trying to learn more about them.

I shall pose the same question, since Shekinah keeps coming up with such good ones!

Get to know your fellow FoGer! - Page 24 Empty Re: Get to know your fellow FoGer!

Post by Shekinah Thu Aug 19, 2010 6:07 am

Hahaha thanks.

Well, I don't really know myself, to be honest. I've always believed in 'possibilities'. Like: God can exists but He might as well not exist. Because there are so many different religions, we've been given the chance to really believe in His existance (or not, if we're completely fair, as I'm sure there are also religions (though I'm not sure that can called a religion then... difficult!) that defy or ignore the existance of God. So, a lot of people call me weak for not being able to make a choice (either believe or not) but I can't find myself able to COMPLETELY believe in God and at the same time I can't completely DENY Him. And well, as long as I'm being honest, I also think that it's not always necessary to make a distinct choice or to proof something dead. But, to return to the question: if I'd have to choose one religion, I'd have the feeling that I betray my own believes, if that sounds logical. As it would mean that I'd, for the most part anyway, have to believe in only one way in God and not in several ways, like I, in a way, do now. And in some way, it would also give me the feeling that everything I've done for, lived for, believed in before I converted to whatever religion, was a lie. So I really don't know, hahaha.

What do you think of the death penalty? Do you believe in it, or do you think it's a necessary evil, or do you think it's totally wrong? Well, you get the picture Razz

Killing in war is different, but only if the war is worth fighting. Abortion is murder, as far as I'm concerned. People need to take responsibility and not cut life off at the root. I know I'm glad MY mother didn't get any abortions.

As for the death penalty, I do indeed believe in it. Murderers in prison is just an accident waiting to happen. It's a burden on society, it's cruel to the murderers, and it's a crime against their victims. Many of them get out of prison anyway, only to do the same things over again because of a society that makes life an impossible hell for anyone previously convicted of a crime.

It's not only murderers and rapists I'd advocate the death penalty for, either. Treason is another big one, as well as adultery and slavery. To any who would argue for reformation, I would quote the old saying: 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.' The higher the penalty, the fewer the people who commit the crime. Anyone who commits a capital crime is aware of the consequences and deserves no mercy. In those situations, mercy for the guilty is itself a crime against the innocent.

Do you think pirate-ninjas could conceivably exist, without anything canceling out, or do you think the two different lifestyles are too different to be combined into a single individual? Very Happy

It's funny though, since almost every research done about the so-called prevention coming from the death penalty, says that it doesn't work as a prevention Smile Also: prison is meant for resocialisation, death penalty is no such thing. (and I know killing in a war is different, but a war fought based on complete lies is just plain murder in my eyes, and that's what I meant. To add: not per say by the soldiers, but by the government)

Anyway:

Of course they could exist! If only someone would be cool enough to combine the two Wink Of course, I want to see a pirate-ninja with an eye-patch Wink

The best thing I learned from my parents is to put family first and to work hard. They are equally important lessons in my mind. The worst thing I learned...I guess is that even people who I admire are prone to mistakes, sometimes big ones. That was a hard one. But it is the same for any person.

Here's kind of a backward question. Based upon interaction of FOG, what do you think of me? You can describe or just throw out a label, and it can be negative. I just always wondered how I am percieved to those who only know me via internet.

Hmmm...it's hard to describe other people, ey? So, I'd say you're calm and very understanding. You seem to take responsibilities well and seems rather upbeat. At least in my opinion.

I'll pose the same question, but about me.

Yet we seem to share a few similar interests at least. It would just be interesting to see how he goes about his day (hopefully you don't find that creepy, Hello Danger...).

If you had a chance to meet another FOG-ger in person, who would you want to meet?

OH my GOSH, there are so many people I wish I could meet. There are tons of people, especially players of Emoria, along with a few outside of Emoria as well. One person...

I guess I'll have to say...grrrr...this is really difficult.

I would like to meet Shadow Moonseye. It's like a two for one cause I'd meet Plague too ^_^

Alright, same question.

Get to know your fellow FoGer! - Page 24 Empty Re: Get to know your fellow FoGer!

Post by Silvan Arrow Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:29 pm

Actually, yes.

- Long story ahead -

When I was 6, my grandfather suffered a severe head trauma and was in the hospital for months. The doctors had to remove the entire left frontal lobe of his brain, and he was in a coma for 41 days. My mom, grandma, and I were at a cafeteria getting dinner one day after being at the hospital, and it was really crowded. Mom was about to get up to get more food when this older couple walks up to us. We had never seen them before, but the woman talked said to my mom, "I heard about your dad. We'll be praying for him." She then gave my mom a pin that said, "Our God Reigns." I don't remember what else they said, but my mom turned back to my grandma for literally two seconds, turned back around, and the couple was gone. Not gone as in walking away, I mean gone as in vanished without a trace. We were in full view of the exit, and in such a crowded place, there was no way they could have left the building in such a short amount of time. That night, the woman appeared in my mom's dream and said, "Your dad is going to be all right."

Sure enough, the doctors performed a CAT scan some time later, and the entire left frontal lobe of his brain was placed back in his skull. And just for the record, brain cells do NOT regenerate like that on their own. The doctors put my grandpa in their books as "Divine Miracle." He later got out of the hospital, went home, and lived 12 more healthy years. My mom and I swear to this day that those two people in the restaurant were angels and that God performed a divine miracle on my grandpa.

- End Long Story -

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Well, I used to live in a house where I would be able to "feel" or "sense" where a ghost was at night. Don't quite know what the proper term is but yeah I knew it was there. Plus I used to play in a cottage that I know was haunted upstairs and later the main level gained a ghost. So yeah I have had a little dealings with the supernatural.

While you were growing up what was your favorite book / book series and why?

Since you two answered the same question, I'll answer both your questions and post a new one. And Silvan: wow! That's amazing and absolutely beautiful Smile I'm happy for you it was such a good experience.

Silvan's question: I'd want to have the same superpower as Mystique has: the power to shape shift. It's really all you need, since you can shape shift into anyone, you could - for example - rule the world if you wished to.

Sunwolf's question: De Koning van Katoren (it's a Dutch book, there's no proper translation for it as 'Katoren' is not an existing word. The writer came up with it, but koning means king, so it would be like The King of Katoren). I don't really know why, I just remember it as being the most awesome book someone ever read to me. (Yeah, I never read it myself, but our teacher in elimentary school read it to us). Maybe it's also because out teacher could read out aloud so damn well. I was always looking forward to the times where he would read that book to us. I should read it myself some time, as I don't quite remember anymore what it was about.

Ok, new question:

What are you afraid of? Like: elementary fears. I mean, almost anyone's afraid to lose a loved one, so that one doesn't count. But like, what gives you real FEAR?

I'd have to say heights, but with restrictions to a degree. If I'm up high, but have a railing, safety harness or similar I'm not terrified. I'm still very much afraid, which is a feeling that's quite nice actually. From time to time, in small doses that is. If I didn't have any of those things I'd be a lot more afraid, and more afraid because I am afraid. If that makes sense. So yeah, heights.

Do you ever challenge your fears? If yes, how?

Hummm. Well, at times I challenge my fears due to necessity. Like you I don't get along well with heights but I have learned to deal with it as best I can. I don't go out of my way to challenge my fears because I am not really like that but I don't avoid them either. I still go on planes (with a hint of claustrophobia its a double fear because I know we are way up high so heights fear comes into play as well) when I have to or drive over bridges when I have to. So I guess its a yes and no answer.

I can't wait for my visit to the UWV, where I - hopefully - will FINALLY hear that I'll get my money after over 6 months of waiting (and all sorts of legal procedures)!!! (And then buy a new tv Razz)

Have you ever tried to change your character/personality for someone else? Because someone asked you to, or because you thought it was the only way to impress someone, or because you thought it was the only way someone wanted to be your friend etc.?

Nope. I never did anything like that. The most I will do is try to discuss topics that I know my friends have some knowledge in. Like talking Gundam with my friends that like Anime but talking movies with my friends that watch movies.

Nope, never. This is because I never have expectations from a book or movie. Oh wait, no, this is not entirely true. No wait, it is true that I never have expectations from a book or movie or anything else, but I didn't think I'd like Shaman King because it's a kid's show. But I liked it anyway! Put water on a KFC biscuit and microwave it because it hardened in the fridge overnight. The end result made me incapable of eating KFC biscuits for well over a year. Even now I gag at the memory of how it tasted.

I dunno, I don't live in the US, but in Dutchyland and over here it's always different. Also, depending on how close you live to school, your wake up time may change from other's wake up time. In general, I skipped a lot of classes when I was in highschool (due to personal issues) so it didn't really bother me. In the end, I even had an agreement that I was allowed to stay home the first three hours, to catch up later in the afternoon. I never did that though. We start highschool between 9 and 11.30 a.m. Depends on your schedule. So I'm fine with it.

If you'd be a highschool teacher, what class would you teach?

If I was a highschool teacher I would teach either english or history. I might actually end up doing that while I work to try to get some books written. ^^

Since I think that is a good question I will send it back to you.

Dutch, it was my best subject and I think I'd enjoy teaching that subject, especially if I'd be allowed to give lots of writing assignments (like writing a short story for example).

If your house was on fire and you were given the chance to save one item (so don't give me that crap "I'm gonna save my dog/brother/sister/parents", as I know - or hope Razz - everyone would do that) from your room, what would it be?

It depends on how I feel. If I'm in a good mood I like company. But if I am in pain or stressed I'd rather be left alone. I thought all people were like that, but turns out there are a lot of miserable people out there who want to be surrounded with attention.
