High Fantasy Role Play

Well, I've noticed there is quite a serious lack of High Fantasy role plays within the Advanced Role Play threads. And seeing as my other role plays are slow beyond slow, I believe I have more than enough time to get engaged in yet another role play.

Like the title, the genre of the role play is High Fantasy, and I specially placed this in Advanced Role Play because I hope that the players would be able to create high-quality posts. On one hand, it helps me to improve my grasp of the language, and on the other, it appears nicer to my eyes

However, I am rather embarrassed to admit that I've no clear idea of what exactly could be the story though. And more importantly, the settings. I'm tempted to draw a map by hand, but am lazy to do it. Though, the story takes priority. If you're also interested, PM me, and we could work out the details.

I'm with you, Zephiris! There is not nearly enough High Fantasy RP out there. Everybody wants half-breeds and vampires vs. werewolves and science fiction. Give me elves and dragons any day!

I would love to help you plan and host this RP. I can even make us a map.
Together we can get this project off the ground.

Whatever we do, I'm hoping to experiment with the languages I'm creating. If this piques your interest, I would be all too glad to elaborate.

The role-play this planning thread started is Sephiris: The Price of Peace

I would like to encourage more people to come join this role-play!

I have dwarves, too, if you guys want, but we don't have to.

Let's not use my world, though. It's not really finished. I'm just wanting to use this as an opportunity to develop languages and things. xD

I have complete magic systems and language skeletons. I just have a tiny wordlist, so we'll be making up words and adding them to a list of some kind. Assuming you want to do that in the first place.

Let's brainstorm! What do we want in the RP?

And I'll openly admit, I'm a huge fan of violence and graphic scenes of the related sort; hope that's not an issue. As for plot? Would you fine gentlemen prefer something thats travel based, moving from one place to a certain destination? Or more isolated, like in a giant city? Or hell!! We can make it interesting. Perhaps, for one reason or another, it takes place in some sort of underground labrynth, where you've got to get to the end in order to be set free/whatever... which is mostly impossible... I love conflict!

But i imagined using the typical DnD or Tolkien race style? I'm very interested as well... my more in depth ideas are probably more campy.. but here's a few vague ones.

Prisoners of war trapped in a dungeon?

A massive beast [or several of them] of some sort is waking? or being resurrected by a cult?

Wizards and or Druids are attacking multiple cities for experiments/sacrifices? building an army?

guild wars? Clan Wars? Family feuds? nation wars? Race wars?

I'm a big fan of something starting out small. A small objective that elevates as the story moves along, becoming more grand and of great importance, involving things on a much larger scale than first believed.

A good quality high-fantasy role-play sounds right down my street and some thing I'm yearning for. Seen too many realistic role-plays or things/Worlds/games that I'm running so can't fully join and enjoy.

We're still in the building phase. Zephiris didn't have a clear idea what he wanted beyond a High Fantasy RP.

So we're all helping. ^^ Or I am, anyway. There's no clear leader or host right now--we're all just brainstorming on what we want to see in the RP.

I can host, if you guys want. I'd definitely be up for it, but it would only be my second time leading a RP, so I'd be grateful for feedback now and then.

That map up there is meant only to start us brainstorming. We can use it or discard it or change it however we want. I can post a higher quality version if someone else wants to work on it (or I can just as easily finish it myself)

I'm starting to ramble now, but the main thing is it's all out there in the open; all the possibilities lie before us. We have only to pick a few and get the show on the road. xD

I'd love to be involved. I'm honestly about my High Fantasy, I've always been a character-driven guy myself. Regardless, however, I love some good Fantasy and the ideas/map/images here seem great.

Sooo... DO you guys want me to host it? If so, give me any ideas you have so we can incorporate them. I'd be fine with not hosting or co-hosting, too, so whatever we all agree on is great.

Ah good news. Yes, yes please keep us updated. I'd liked to hear plot ideas from you guys, unless you'd rather not release them until the end.

Keep me posted, this should be good. Although lately I've tended towards darker stuff than typical high fantasy, there shuold be plenty of Team Evil for me right?

Sorry if it sounds impertinent, but I'm going to try and steal this thread so it gets the momentum to become an actual RP. Even - especially - if Zephiris or Kalon steals it back and makes it even more awesome.

I'd rather not have the plot all in one place - not really how high fantasy works. I may also steal Cthulhu-esque elements for Team Evil, but nothing like the level of hopelessness in Lovecraft's mythos - not unless the bad guy wins outright at least, and that was pretty much the stakes in LOTR.

In terms of world, the Old Empire split into various different kingdoms, mostly on racial lines - just like real life. Now? It's down to about three, four, maybe more but only two or three in the primary War for the MacGuffin - I'm currently thinking the Eldar Empire and the Alliance of Man are at loggerheads over a piece of highly valuable territory - a magical nexus, a place where various ley lines / flows of magical power (audience's preference) meet and are thereby amplified - which they both claim ancestral rights to. Meanwhile, someone on one or other side - or a wildcard, or a mercenary -is pulling strings, because they need several nexuses (nexi?) in order to resurrect a being known as the Abomination, the Wild Power, the Dead God who was ganked by all of the other gods in the days before creation. The Party, hereby defined as all the starting players, would get embroiled in this and escalating by some or all of them being hired to assassinate - or maybe escort - some magi who turn out to be key pieces in Lord BBEG's plan.

Alright everyone; I've been PMing with Zephiris for the past few days, and we've come up with a lot of stuff.

I just now posted the RP. Sephiris: The Price of Peace. It's still under construction, but at least everyone can see what is there so far!

Zephiris has a lot on his plate at the moment, so he asked me to take the reins, as it were. He's got a lot of material in the RP, though, and he has a good plot in mind. We've designed the religion, the history and the world so that we have a lot of options.

For those of you who want to get extra-super-literate, I've created skeletons to a couple of languages for us to play with.

Now I better go work on getting everything ready. Good thing I have a day off today. ^^

Still need help on plot?

We have a basic plot, but we don't want to nail it all down. It's best to leave room for the RP to make it's own plot. Or plot twists, I should say. Reaching the basic plot points through whatever roundabout routes the RP takes us--plus detours. xD

When you say "High Fantasy" what is the range of creatures?

We have three sentient races. Humans, Elves, and Dragons. (Elves are more fragile, and Dragons are anthropomorphic.)

Beyond that, just about anything [realistic and reasonable] is possible as far as wildlife or monsters. There will be monsters. ^^

Probably. There are bad NPC's, at least. And there are monsters. As far as actual villains... we're still working on that. In a way, the major villain is the races themselves, as a whole. The disharmony, the dark energies of war that have only now dissipated enough to allow Sephiris (basically a goddess), to awaken.

I have to talk with Zephiris some more about what he was planning to do about actual playable villains, if there are any. I imagine the characters we RP will all be quite flawed, though.

I have added detailed information about Humans, Elves, and Dragons in the OOC. Be sure to go and see it. I'll put the languages up there tomorrow.

The OOC has been updated with even more information on Humans, Elves, and Dragons. Zephiris had a lot to add about humans--it's way better now.

I put up the languages for elves and dragons, in case any of you want to use it and expand it during the RP. Totally optional, but it's there for anyone who wants it. ^^

There's just a few more things Zephiris and I need to nail down, and then we can post up instructions and profile templates and a prologue and we'll be ready to start the role-play! xD

Feel free to shamelessly steal all my plot ideas from my brief, abortive attempt to steal the thread, but it was going to build up to a specific group of Rather Major Villains, the Cult of the Dead God, which might not fit with the tone of the RP if ultimately no one is the card-carrying villain. You'd at least have to make the black-hats understandable in that case, and have most of the conflicts between grey-hats.

You should make another Evil Prevails role-play sometime, ATM. ^^
