Anyone interested?

I have been attacked by the vicious creature known as boredom, and I was thinking that a one on one roleplay might suffice to scare the beast away.

As of right now I'm really in the mood for a fantasy RP, maybe combined with steampunk. Anyone interested in a possibly steampunk-ish, fantasy roleplay? Lots of brainstorming will be necessary as I have no plot whatsoever.

No idea what that is, but yes, magic. Magic is definitely a must.

Crimson Skies is an old game about a sky dominated world. Zeppelins and planes are the primary mode of transportation, so perhaps that might be a good starting point.

Ah. That actually sounds like a pretty good starting point. Maybe there can be floating cities, and in order to travel from one city to another one must fly on a zepplelin or plane?

Maybe the main characters are attacked by pirates on the way to wherever they're headed and they end up on the ground, where people haven't lived on for centuries because of some sort of calamity or something. The problem would then be getting back up to where they actually live.

That needs work...

How about this. I love using ancient magic as reason for this. Some ancient villain screwed up and made the ground unstable. Some places are known to be stable, and people grow food there. Some daring or power mad people try to investigate the ancient ruins. Science has been found to be much more reliable, if less powerful, and so it is used to fuel as much things as possible?

Ancient magic is always a wonderful reason. It makes things so much fun to mess with. Hm... Yes, that could definitely work. However, there would still be magic around, and thus people who could use that magic. Maybe magic is illegal? That would cause problems for anyone who had magic and thus had to learn how to use it or risk causing serious problems.

I was thinking that it would be tightly regulated and, here is the key, taxed. The government dislikes rogue mages who don't pay their taxes.

That's better than what I had. We'll go with that, then.

Maybe there could be shards of magic floating about, leftover from when the ancient villain seriously screwed up? I'm not sure how this would work -- maybe people would want to try to harness these shards for their own power or something. I just think it'd add an interesting detail.

...Is that all we need, world wise?

How about a couple of feuding nations, and a few utterly neutral organizations like a Postal Guild, or a Weather Bureau?

How about ancient magic constructs fuel the major floating cities, and are valuable to start your own fief, create an ultimate weapon, or something along those lines?

That sounds good. We can make those up as the RP goes along, then. It makes for more exciting-ness that way.

Ahh, I was thinking of maybe creating an insurance company that employs field agents to try and prevent costs from things like pirates. It would be an interesting take off Trigun, and be fairly interesting twist. Up to you on that, I don't really care either way.

I'd rather not, at least not right away. It can always be brought in later.

We should probably come up with characters and figure out just how they end up below.

Yes, but we need to figure out just where they were going and what they were planning on doing -- which might just iron itself out with the creation of the characters themselves.
