We Walk Alone OOC

The streets of Gotham City and Metropolis are bustling these days. That's not entirely different from any other day though, is it? No, I'd suppose not, but what is different is that the streets are hustling and bustling with thugs, pimps, mobsters and out-right crooks. It seems as if criminal activity has skyrocketed in both cities to an abnormally high rate.

Why, you ask? The heroes are gone. Dead and buried, as far as we all know. They've showed us Batman's decaying corpse, Superman's skeleton of steel which looks as if it has been picked clean of any flesh by ravenous dogs and the Green Lantern's body was found beaten and bloody and hammered to a cross in Gotham Cathedral. These villains wanted to show a message to everyone, and they've done well to get their point across. Hell, they've even killed off some of the big name villains as well! It doesn't seem right that neither the Joker nor the Caped Crusader found their end at the hands of the other, but I digress.

My purpose is not to give you a complete oral history of the Downfall, but rather to give you a better understanding of the world as it is now: Without the heroes, the world has fallen into a disheartening...calm, as it seems. Crime rate is up, but the police are becoming more and more brutal with their crime fighting tactics. Governments that were once peaceful and democratic have become oppressive dictatorships, silencing any talk of revolution or reformation with a swift strike to the source of the gossip. Things are drastically different, but it's become a very quiet place.

This is where you come in, would-be heroes! Rumors have spread once again of revolution and the people of Earth need your help to restore the order. Be wary, however, because your fellow heroes are all you have.

In this new world, you all walk alone.



1. You know the forum rules, boys and girls. Adhere to them or suffer the consequences! Always remember: Silence is golden, but my kickhammer is heavy and good for causing major concussions.

2. Canons are welcome, as are original characters, but we've gotta get some stuff straight first:

2a. OCs must have some sort of level of realism attached to them. For example, it took Bruce YEARS to achieve such a mastery of the martial arts as he has. I don't give a shit how smart your character is, no one would learn all of that in a week. Also, OCs can either be a hero of your own makings or someone taking the mantle of a fallen hero.

2b. Anyone wishing to play an out-right canon character will have to message myself or Rea to discuss it. NO EXCEPTIONS.

3. There ARE off-limits characters. Here, let me put up the list....

A question before I begin: Can/should these heroes have super powers?

Also can you play a villain instead of a hero?

Bird of Hermes: They definitely can, but try to keep it reasonable. If you know the DC Universe, then just try to keep it within that set of ideas. I swear, though...If I see a Superman wannabe...Well, let's just not get to that point XD

Raptorman: I do suppose you could, but they're really only going to be focusing on the main villain that caused all of this. Mainly, any bad "bad guys" are going to be GM'd by myself and Rea. It might be a better idea if you make a hero instead, but I'll check just to make sure.

Raptorman: Either is alright, but if it's a cannon villain, then be sure to pm us about.

Biography: Valerei “Rei” Kane is the daughter of Mary Elizabeth “Bette” Kane, the original Flamebird. At a young age, Valerei was sent away by her mother to form a life away from the crime-ridden streets of Gotham City. Left in the hands of her relatives and left to her own devices, Rei lived a life free of masked vigilantes and war-torn streets. Rei trained to be a gymnast and saw great success, until she discovered her trainer bribing contest officials and gave up on competition all together. Eager to find another means to support herself, Rei began writing for a local newspaper. Doing research for an article about city crime rates, she came across articles about her mother’s crime-fighting days. Weeks later, her mother was found dead on a roof-top in the heart of Gotham; she had been shot through the heart with an arrow and tied to the statue of an angel on the roof of the cathedral, her arms spread out like a bird. On news of her mother’s death, Rei moved to Gotham to live in her mother’s old apartment and learn more about the circumstances of her mother’s death.
Abilities: Skilled gymnast and martial artist, cape that can change to become wings, lenses in gloves fire blinding light blasts, equipped with weapons such as her "Bird-A-Rangs" and electrified bolas.

Hero/Villain Name: The Raven of Azrael
Biography: Abandoned by his mother for the strange feathered wings that sprouted from his infant body, Skylar was left in a dark ally to die. However, the homeless denizens of east Gotham took him as their own and he was raised as a thief on the streets, his gift of flight never failing to leave him undetected when stealing a street merchant's fruit. However, as he aged he learned the harsh end of life on the streets. When a homeless child was being cruelly beaten by a wealthy businessman for trying to steal some food, Skylar dove from the sky and rescued the boy. He then confronted the man who struck him across the face with his cane and proceeded to beat him across the back. But, something strange happened then. The man's cane broke in half and the boy's wings turned to a bullet-proof metal to protect him. From that day on, Skylar has taken up rescuing the innocent, diving from the sky and protecting the weak with his wings. The local paper has coined him "The Raven of Azrael".
Abilities: Black feathered wings that enable flight, can transform wings into bullet-proof metal, may fire knife-like blades from wings.

Hero/Villain Name: Batman

Biography: Christian Reese was at the park when rumors first spread like wildfire, when people first started running up the street. The word was out Batman was dead. The young teenager was smart enough to know what it meant. Hell was about to break loose. And it did. Christian took it upon himself to act like his hero Batman and protect his block, but this illusion was quickly shattered as common criminals chased him to his house. They broke it and while his parents distracted the criminals young Christian snuck out a window. He stopped for a moment to when he heard the two gun shots that took his parents life.

Christian was an orphan with no home and living in hell, on the streets. One day while at the edge of the city, the two criminals who killed his parents ran into the boy. He quickly ran into the Gotham Hills to escape. As the car came close to running him down he suddenly fell. It felt like forever, but when he came to he awoke in the legendary Bat Cave. The young Christian took this as a sign and began to training using old footage of Batman’s training sessions saved on the computer. 15 years later he is ready to introduce the world to the new Batman.

Abilities: No powers, but physically he is at the peak of human ability in dozens of areas, most notably martial arts, acrobatics, strength, and escape artistry. Though intellectually he is still behind the original Batman he makes progress every day to reach the same level through hard work and experience.

[He can be either a villain or a hero I just have to change the lines about what he does. So do you want him as a hero or a villain?

Name: Frank Johnson

Hero/Villain Name: The Anomaly

Biography:
Frank lived a normal life up until about ten years ago. He had a successful if small business and was well on his way to middle class happiness then disaster struck. Well disaster for his business wether it was disaster for him is not yet quite certain. He and his young family were kidnapped by some radical terrorists who had somehow obtained the uranium necessary to create a primitive nuclear weapon. The only thing the terrorists didn't have were hostages to use as bargaining chips while they moved the bomb to keep from getting taken down along the way.

Frank had to watch as his wife and children were used as human shields and then killed as the terrorists reached their objective. He knew that he would have to do something drastic when his time came or he would die here as well. When the Terrorist grabbed him and dragged him across the no mans land where the police were Frank waited. Then as they entered the building were the bomb was held Frank suddenly resisted. He tried to fight the terrorists who then shot him. He fell and as he fell activated the terrorists' bomb. The bomb exploded in an enormous blast of radiation. Somehow though the blast only damaged things a few hundred meters away no farther.

Frank woke up the next morning in the center of the still smoking and burning blast radius and found himself to somehow be alive. He didn't look very good though. The radiation had fused the fingers of his hands together leaving him with only two large fingers and a thumb on both his hands. His face was melted and only a little of his humanity remained. What little remained was mainly the functioning eyes and mouth. He made a rather hasty if awkward run away from the blast site and succeeded in reaching his house. He didn't stop there but continued to run after picking up his things. He began over the next several days of hiding in alleys and sleeping in slums to discover that he could now do things. Unfortunately he could not control his newfound powers very well.

He through dubious means obtained a rather interesting suit that somehow allowed him to control his radiation emission and allowed for a more controlled use of his power. He now hungers for revenge upon the world that killed his family and turned him into a freak.

Abilities: The radiation that changed him somehow made him capable of storing and using radiation to power his body and to accelerate his healing process. While he is by no means invincible he can often heal from crippling or nearly mortal wounds. He can unleash the radiation within him in concentrated beam like pulses these radiation pulses tend to range in power from the power to give someone a really nasty sunburn to the power to irradiate and instantly kill the other should the radiation hit. He can also as a last resort flush all radiation from his body in an explosive fashion. Anything within ten yards of him will be consumed in a mini atomic explosion. He slowly regenerates the radiation on his own but drawing it from radioactive isotopes or even the sun itself is a faster more efficient process.

Hero/Villain Name: "Crash"

Biography: Colin grew up on the streets of Waco, Texas as the son of Irish immigrants, and like any of the other kids on his street, he was a football fanatic. Every day he went and played pick up games in the yard, and every day he got a little better. All through grade school and into high school he played, and developed amazing skill at it. When he was running the ball it seemed like nobody could stop him. Kids got flung ten feet through the air when he broke through a line, and once he got going he just couldn't be stopped. The older he got, the more kids would get hurt when they played with him, especially if it was without pads. Broken collarbones, bruised ribs, all easy injuries when you played with Crash. A high school football coach scouted him when he was just in JV, and soon he was the star defensive end of his High School football team. His team went to state his senior year, and it was there that his powers erupted. The last play of the game, his team was trailing by 5 points. A touchdown would win it, and Coach knew there was only one person who could score it. For the first time in his life Colin was the one in the spotlight. In a radical call the coach put him in in place of the running back, and to this day nobody knows exactly what happened. Colin's stress levels were higher than they had ever been, and the result was amazing and disastrous at the same time. The quarterback handed him the ball and he plowed through the line, knocking a 400 pound center 10 feet through the air. Colin just kept on going, not slowed at all, and went right into the endzone. To his surprise, he found that he couldn't stop, and the goal post was feet away. He crashed through it, leaving only splinters, and grinded to a halt. The crowd looked on in awe and fear, and people started screaming. Colin decided that the only thing to do now was to run. He was one of those. A freak, a mutant, a non-human. So, he ran. And he ran. And he ran. Until he ended up in Gotham City. Fearful of his powers, and wanting to start a new life. Colin started working in a burger shop in downtown Gotham and rented himself out a nice apartment. He's been living mostly under the radar ever since, except for one standout incidents where he donned a black motorcycle helmet with a tinted visor and stopped the Bank of Gotham from being robbed by Bane, who he knocked unconscious by ramming him into the vault door. He hasn't done much 'hero work' and doesn't really consider himself anything of a protector, or even a superhero.

Abilities: Think Juggernaught, sans the freaky suit and jewel. His power is on about the same level, depending on how much momentum he has built up.

I don't really see anyone knocking Bane unconscious, but...I guess it works XD

Name: Mary Rosencrans

Hero/ Villain Name: Alell

Biography: Daughter of two "slave drivers", Mary was born into a religious life. She went to a catholic day school, where she was raised to know all her bible stories. For many years, her only interaction with boys was in the park where they would meet for other church affairs. Needless to say, she had a strict upbringing. But when she went to college, Mary revealed the secret she'd been hiding from her parents: she didn't agree with the teachings of the church-- at least on the aspect of evolution anyway. As such, she went to a more liberal college and studied biology to a great extent, learning deeply about the processes of man, reinforcing her own beliefs. For a few years, Mary delved deep into the human genome, coinciding with the death of the heroes. It made one wonder, what was the potential of humans if they could do those miraculous feats and still die. What would be the limit of the evolution of man? Her studies continued as she took a special opportunity to delve further into humanity. It would transfer her to another college for the duration of the research project. During the transfer program in Gotham City, Mary was walking to her apartment. Lo and behold as she got mugged. Reluctant to give up her purse, she started to run as she got shanked in the back. But the knife glanced off her, making the petty thief run in fear. Something had happened to her and she didn't know what it was. But there was time to do research. A quick look at her cells at her back showed change. A mutation. It was clear that something was different in this woman. And she'd have to discover what it exactly was.

Abilities: Darwinism. Mary's body reacts to outside influences and then adapts in a group of unknown ways. If someone tried to shoot her, her skin would probably become metal. If she was drowning underwater, she'd be able to breathe underwater. It isn't a perfected system, nor one able to be acted with mental focus, nor are the side effects known yet. It is unknown what would happen if a nuke was set off, but a probable idea would be a method of fast escape. Her ability is scenario based evolution.

Hero/Villain Name: Harley Quinn
Biography: In the two years that the Joker has died, one might not see such a huge change in Harley save for her appearance. Though, farther back in her already cracked mind one can see that a huge part of her morals system has utterly shattered. Having spent the first six months after his death in Arkham people had almost believed that Harley had reverted back to her old logical self. Though, it was indeed just a clever facade. How foolish people can be when put up against a pretty face.

Shortly after being released Harley went back to her best friend Poison Ivy. The pair worked together for a while, but eventually had a bit of a falling out. Since then, Harley has been working alone. She's taken up the mantle as the "Clown Princess of Crime" and has made large attempts at causing more chaos than her estranged beau.
Abilities: Harley is rather intelligent, quite clever, and utterly insane.

Name: Cash Muranga
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Physical Description: Cash
Hero/Villain Name: Doctor Scratch
Biography: Cash Muranga is a tad bit of an enigma. His accent suggests that he is, perhaps, from Australia. Granted, he's put up a front of other accents to escape the law. The only thing known for sure about the man is that he's Gotham Medical School dropout and works back alley operations. The side which the doctor works for is unclear, seeing as he'll help who ever pays him. Though, he does seem to be more fond of vigilantes.
Abilities: A surprisingly extensive amount of medical knowledge, a con man, escape artist, and a fairly good actor.

Baldwin, however, did not die. For some reason, either mystical or scientific, his corpse was reanimated by some means approximately 3 years ago, the Leper-King rising from his tomb with inhuman strength. He was confused, and took the time to remove his armour. Where his fingers had fallen off, a silvery substance was there, slowly beginning to take on the shape of his lost digits. He touched his face, and found a similar thing happening to his cheeks and nose.
Even his reproductive organs were rebuilding. He leapt from the tomb, and promptly fell flat upon his face, his missing leg hampering him. The caretaker, a wisened woman of advancing years, found him and thought him a poor man; assaulted by the ones who had robbed the great Baldwin's tomb. Allowing him to use her spare room, she kept silent for several weeks as Baldwin's limbs regrew themselves, with skin growing over the silver, and his face moulded back into it's handsome shape; the face of a 24 year old man. She painstakingly taught the former King Israeli, Syrian and English; his dialect of Latin was far removed from her's, but she accomplished it nonetheless.
A year passed, and it became obvious to Baldwin that not returned human. He could sense her lies, he could turn the bluntest knife into a deathly weapon, and he wielded incredible physical endurance and strength.
Then the Caretaker's house was broken into while he slept. She was murdered, and Baldwin awoke to catch but one assailant; supposedly a thug of 'The Joker'. Their mission? Rob the grave of the greatest King the Holy City had ever had.
Such was two years ago. Baldwin regrets having not reaped fell vengeance upon The Joker himself, but he now has a new Crusade. Gotham.

Abilities:
Superhuman strength. Innate ability to detect lies. Master Swordsman. Superhuman endurance.
