Spires [Sci-Fi with touches of Fantasy]

(This is alternate timeline type of stuff, so bear with me if it's a little hard to follow. It also is based on imaginary science, not legit science.)

1983: An asteroid the size of Greenland collides with Mars and knocks it slightly out of orbit. The asteroid itself was destroyed upon impact with the planet. Scientists are hard at work determining if the shift is significant enough to cause worry.

1984: It is determined that the change in orbit is nothing to worry about. Nothing of importance happens.

1985: A second asteroid collision further compromises the orbit of Mars. By the end of the year scientist have determined that eventually this new orbit will lead to a collision with Earth. There is a full solar eclipse as Mars slips between the orbits of Earth and Venus.

1986: A summit is called to gather the greatest minds of the Earth to determine if there is a way to prevent total devastation from the impact.

1987-1988: A plan is agreed upon and preparations begin. Strange weather patterns start occurring all over the world as climates begin to fluctuate and tidal patters change drastically.

1989: The predicted impact will happen next year, evacuations of the supposed impact area. Preparations are finished. The counter measure will be to counteract the force of the impact with missiles. Following Newton's Laws of Motion, speculation about possible debris and fallout makes many nervous and paranoid. Riots break out at a high rate of increase near the end of the year.

1990: The Impact is coming. With the payload in place mankind crosses its fingers. Initially the plan is a success, though the plant keeps some advancing. It won't be certain until next year if the impact has been avoided. Monolithic shards of debris fall down to Earth after the payload hits Mars. The locations are spread out all across the planet, some cities are wiped out instantly in the impacts.

1991: A Full on collision with Mars is avoided, the planet has stopped, but hangs within the atmosphere. Mutual gravitation along with the Sun and the Moon case the planets to become a binary system. The freak weather continues, scientist now fear what will happen to the seasons with Mars now so close and in a position to block the sun frequently.

2033: After the initial shock wore off, riots broke out over food and even the simplest of amenities. Realizations about the changes in the climate being cause by the new binary system orbit lead to widespread panic and riots, millions died. As time passed the human population dwindled greatly as food continued to be limited and governments collapsed. People formed close knit communities that became nations within themselves. The human extinction was helped along by the Spires, as the debris from Mars came to be called. All around the base of these structures, those thought to have been killed have instead been turned into mutated creatures know as the Aboths. The Spires had a strange radiation that was increased tenfold at the moment of impact, causing the creation of the Aboths, but it seemed to have minimal effects on anyone that entered. The radiation from the Spires spread worldwide and it began to cause a noticeable change. More and more cases of psychic activity and phenomena became reported, though that was the extent of it. As time passed, the people who gained these psychic talents from the Spire radiation were turned into weapons by the nations they resided in.

2034-2050: The evolution of the communities into nations of their own escalated and now small territorial wars have begun over lands all across the world. It seems that a World War is looming. The threat of the Aboths still remains though they are supposed to remain close to the Spires, there have been sightings out further away from them than normal. Expeditions were launched with military forces to examine some of the less infested Spires. It was found that they contain an abundance of extremely rare minerals not found naturally on Earth. Using these materials and ingenuity born of desperation, many of these small nations begin arms development of a more fantastical style. The market for these materials is extremely valuable and the highwayman and pirate professions make a startlingly rapid comeback.

~PRESENT~
You are a member of a small nation nestled among the various valleys of the Rocky Mountains. With the next World War looming ever closer, nearby nations are trying to get your nation to join their side, either by negations or force. Assembled from the defense forces for their various skills from the psychic to the weapon prowess, your task is to head off the scouted location of one rival country’s forces. This battle could only be the start of a long and bloody conflict between humans while the Aboths hide along the fringes waiting for their own war.

I also like it. When you say "psychic" are we talking telepathy and the like, or the more active and dangerous telekinesis and pyrokinesis?

Well, hating to be the bearer of bad news as always, I'd have to close this down. There just isn't enough time left before I leave to even get to a decent point and we still lack the number of people I'd like to have.
