Exactly how I feel about that garbage! God. So much bullshit. I also HATE 'straight-edge' bands. Not because I have anything against straight-edge (started as a punk movement - the whole Xs thing comes from getting Xs on your hands for being under 21 at a show and got used as a symbol when drug use got WAY too bad in the scene and people went edge as a statement), but they way they force it down my throat without knowing the history or the why.

I went to a show over the summer. Saw two songs by one 'edge' band in which they insulted me at least three times for not being edge and played the entire time with their backs to us - the whole freakin' band. On top of that, their music just wasn't good. The whole audience went outside and smoked after the set... We blasted punk from the van as a big SCREW YOU, YOUR MUSIC SUCKS.

Point is, it's offensive and ignorant to conduct yourself in the manner.

I'm listening to: Another episode of ATHF.

Oh, I know. I really hate what straight-edge has turned into as well. It is really bad over in Reno, they're more like just another pathetic street gang anymore than anything. When they go around with five guys jumping people for smoking and so forth... it is just ridiculous.

Punk rockers seriously need to learn to chill, it's music not a battlefield. It's meant to bring people together not cause strife. This is why I don't listen to much punk.

Rising by the Yoshida brothers.

The Yoshida brothers are musical geniuses. They blended Japanese Folk music with modern styles. This stuff is music, a lot of bands out there could learn a thing or two from the Yoshida brothers.

Straight-Edge these days is the negation of punk, Hisoka. There is a lot of misunderstanding about punk itself, always has been really. Every *true* punk rocker I have ever known was nothing like that. Sure, they went against social norms and all that stuff usually, but none of them were the type to start fights with everyone just because they disagreed.

Hisoka, it wasn't even a punk show; it was a metal show, so please, don't generalize like that. I am considered a punk rocker, and I don't need to chill. I'm very chill. I'm considered one of the most chill people around. As my best friend says, "You could tell her you just murdered someone and she'd just ask you if you wanted to smoke a cigarette." Not entirely true, but you see my point.

And Mel is correct. Punk is completely misunderstood even by most 'punk rockers'. Punk is a battlefield of sorts, but so is life. We believe in things and do stuff about it, just like everyone else does or should. But on that note, straight-edge is primarily a metal thing now... Well, no, 'metal-core', because that wasn't 'hardcore' and it wasn't 'metal'. It was that suck genre in between.

And if you had read it all the way through, the band was literally yelling insults at us.

And, for the record, anything with the word 'core' in it these days sucks. Metalcore, Deathcore, Grindcore, 'Hardcore', Emocore... it is all trash. The only true hardcore still around are the few old bands and some post-rock groups that take influence from the original hardcore.

In general, punk is much more of a political-activitist type of battlefield. Per se... its more complex than that but still.

Alright I take that back, now I know why I don't listen to much western music period. The whole scene is pathetic doesn't matter what. Almost makes teen pop look good. People who say music sucks need to rethink their life over, every genre has it's merits, even teen pop.

Redemption- Gackt

I am not afraid to mention it but I never listened to Gackt before hearing this song on FFVII Dirge of Cerberus. Seriously man I was missing out, the bloody guy is a poet.

The whole scene? To pile up all of western music into an entire seen is quite rash. There is a lot of great music, you just have to dig for it.

You have me mistaken good looking, it's not western music I have a problem with. I am actually a big fan, especially of anything with core in it....No it's the 'scene' you know elitist pricks who say music sucks. There is very few examples of bad music, music rarely sucks. It just isn't to your tastes that is all.

Saying 'the scene' is still bad, because there is a different scene for every genre/culture/sub-culture. That's like saying Chinese and Korean music is the same thing. I don't know their 'genres' or styles or whatnot, not to sound ignorant, because I'm sure they have some of the same things we do and a bunch of their own styles and genres.

And I don't know that I agree with that. Music can suck. Have you ever heard something auto-tuned? Suck isn't the most eloquent way of putting it, but it amounts to it not being objectively good. Punk is not objectively talented in many cases, but I still like to listen to it. So, I think those are two separate cases.

And as Mel said, punk is a political/activist 'scene'. (Not that there isn't a bunch of different types of punk and overlapping sub cultures.) I went to a punk show three weeks ago. The crow bonded and screamed and cheered and sang to being 'Peace Punks'. So I don't know where you've come up with this 'chill out' stuff...

Anyway, listening to:

They do, Raine. Die From Sorrow is a melodic death/power metal band from China. Only have an ep so far but its really good. I do love how Whispered are a "Samurai Metal" band and from Finland though. Course, as Jouni said, it started out due to his "Perversion for Japan" or something. Haha.

I do what I can, Raine. Very Happy

The Devil to Pay - Iced Earth

One of three songs about the battle of Gettysburg done by a guy (Jon Schaffer) who loves history and actually knew the material. Unlike most musicians who try writing stuff about war and fall flat on their faces. Really, the songs are a great tribute to all who died there.

Johnny Cash is allowed to sing about Gettysburg. Because Johnny Cash is allowed to sing about whatever the heck Johnny Cash wants to sing about. (Yes, I know, this great man is no longer in our presence. I still use the present tense, because he CAN do whatever he wants.)

And don't you laugh at me. >:[ I'll end you.

Indeed. But it still remains a good way for me to investigate the sound of many bands so... double edged blade here. lol

Still listening to the same thing as well, its a decently long song. Friend can't listen to them because of the vocals sounding too much like a blood frenzied berserker... haha. It conflicts with his image of the cliche oh-so-noble and so-forth samurai.

I tried explaining that in combat most of them were the most brutal warriors around and that our modern perceptions of them are the stereotypes that came around after all the wars stopped (more or less) but... eh. Oh well. Hehe
