The Awakening OOC [Closed]

There is a whole world, out of sight, out of reach of our mundane senses. We humans are cut off from the wealth of paranormal activity. Our body's cannot process the true world, nor can we understand it. Only a few people a born with the ability to sense the world as it is, and many of them end up in insane asylums because the people around them can't recognize what they are seeing. Those that join the paranormal world, inherently become cogs in the turning wheels, and change even more to match the world they live in.

But one doctor decided to partake create an experiment. An advertisement was released the other day, in all forms of media. It spoke of a new surgical process that could help restore sensation to any of the five senses. Thousands of people applied, but only five were chosen. Each had a sense that wasn't working quite well before.

"When the surgery is complete, you'll feel like a whole new person. Trust me..."

After the surgery was completed, the senses were working as if they were new! Maybe even better! In fact, surprisingly better. Their senses had been awoken to the new world. And once you start, it doesn't stop. The sensory growth only expands exponentially, and eventually those that are immersed can truly experience the spiritual world. But hold up, the evolution of the senses hasn't gotten that far yet. That takes quite a bit of time.

Nevertheless, by fate or fortune, or by force of will, those that had the surgery will meet up. And they'll have a talk with this man that decided to alter their lives forever...

Changes from surgery:
Sight: See the supernatural world. May think of it as hallucinations.
Hearing: Hear it (and thus think schizophrenia as a possible scenario).
Smell: Smell amazing things. All the time. Able to smell the "stank" of the supernatural world (and magic) on people.
Feel: Feel the supernatural world. Results in being freaked out by the invisible creepy crawlies.
Taste: Taste the supernatural world. Also, "taste" the vibes of an area. Psychometry and all that.

For your char, just have the name, age, sense, a short bio, and appearance (image is nice, but should not be cartoon/anime, but rather a photograph). We'll let the personality surface from the writing.

Bio: A college student, majoring in the arts, Annie's life is halted when her vision becomes almost completely clouded due to severe cataracts. She grew up in a higher class family, her parents both involved in the medical field, with high expectations for their daughter. Although originally reluctant to encourage her becoming an artist, they took a leap of faith to pay for her college, confident that she will do well with pursing her dreams.

Also, Moira, when you say she will see the world of the supernatural, what does that mean? Is the whole world changed and different, coming in flashes of sight, or does she specifically see supernatural creatures and the like, existing in the real world but no one else can see them?

Short Bio: Charles was born with a defective nervous system, which makes his body numb to the sense of touch. His parents realized this defect when he was 2; Charles had no reaction whatsoever when he accidentally placed his finger inside the blades of an electric fan. Although he still managed to have his finger intact, Charles was accident-prone, and experienced multiple accidents without feeling any pain. After visiting hospitals and checking with different doctors, Charles’ parents decided to let their child undergo a “new surgical process” – one that his parents thought was going to make him into a “normal” boy.

*Note: My bio's basically describes the motive of my character's parents, but nothing about his personality and stuff - tell me if you want this added.

It's like layers. You can still see the "natural" world. But you can also see supernatural spirits. Things will be more vibrant, and what you thought was a gun before may actually be a key. The true nature of creature are revealed, and you can see the world for how it is, ghosts and the like.

But only a few people will believe you. Most would advise you to lay off the acid tablets.

Bio: Karina was diagnosed with Pendred Syndrome in at the age of 12 months, after her parents realised that she wasn't showing signs of development natural to a healthy child. Concerned, they took her to all the best specialists before she was diagnosed correctly, however, there was no miracle cure for her, only speech and language support and cochlear implants. Through the help of her implants, she can hear some things, however, still uses sign language to communicate with in the majority of situations.

She managed to get through high school and college without too many hiccups, graduating with a degree in science and successfully landed a job in the Brisbane, Australia, moving out of her parent's place to move overseas. She stays in contact with her parents via facebook and emails, and her parents informed her about the possibly operation that could restore her hearing and entered her in it.

Bio: At around twelve years old, Hunter was diagnosed with Sjogren Syndrome, a medical issue extremely rare in children that destroys the glands that produce tears and saliva. This completely destroyed his sense of taste, and, desperate to fix this problem, his parents signed him up for this new process. He quickly agreed, but wasn't prepared for the concequences.

Bio: Melissa had anosmia (the inability to smell) since a very small age. Her family wasn't sure of the origin. But they would check up on her every now and then, seeing if she could smell the world. One day they saw an add on the internet and told their daughter to check it out. And she managed to be accepted as one of the few people for the procedure.

Well I'm going to elaborate further. Just b/c 3/4 is overall a positive response to the comment.

A prophecy (hehe) tells that if there are people forcibly baptized into the supernatural world, the world will start to crumble. Ergo, the end of all days.

So people (and supernatural people) will try to kill the awakened people. The thing is, for every one that dies, the senses go faster for the other people. So let's say my person dies. The other four people get their senses boosted to the next one on the rotation. etc, etc.

So even if they kill you, they want to kill all of you . One fell swoop. They can't afford to have any survivors.

Hm, interesting. Becomes less about their experiencing the supernatural world and more about the threat of the real world. Not sure how it'll go but I'm game.

Also, the part about dying and the senses is a little confusing; So, if everyone dies but leaves one of the 5 alive, that person will have the ability to fully sense the supernatural world with all 5 senses? Is that it?

If one person dies, let's say Annie, does everybody else gain the ability to see the supernatural world, in addition to their main sense? Or is it handled in some other way?

And with the possibility/threat/likelihood of death, does that mean that we won't all make it to the end of the role-play? If a character dies, is that it? I mean, is that person just out of the role-play from that point on?

There are supernatural threats as well, and some supernatural threats disguised as human threats. Layers upon layers, requiring everyone's new senses to be sure.

And it's a rotation. Each person slides to the next one.

Sight -> Touch->Hearing->Smelling->Tasting->Sight

It is possible that all but one may die. But then you can "roll" an ally or an enemy.

So let's say my person dies. Excluding John Dere, I may create a fairy that is tired of living and wants to help end the world.

Or a government agent (for the government has eyes into every world) sent to assassinate the group. Etc, etc.

hey all, just wanted to make this official.

I'm quitting this RP basically because I feel that I'm required to make posts only to keep the rotation going, instead of making plot-relevant posts. I feel that my character's reactions to, let's say, every single person going in the operation is not relevant to the RP, and just fulfills said rotation.

While rotations in general are fine with me, I just don't enjoy being forced/pressured to write, especially when I'm the last person to post.

Because I still care about this RP's survival, I allow ALL CHARACTERS permission to do ANYTHING with my character. I'm not sadistically asking you to also give a 10-sentence post if ever you'll control my character - even a simple phrase or sentence will do.
