Working on my character. Can he be a little crazy?

Shit, this is too good to pass up, I'll just roleplay in both. Working on my character now.

hehehe. Alrighty. I'll post your spot back up, good sir! Also, I've made a change. Another soldier spot is open, just in case, as I have realized that I will be playing NPCs and the like, so I don't want two main characters.

Define crazy, Raptor. We already have one slightly off person.

This means that we now have one computer techie and one soldier.

Name: Jimmy "The Network" Graves

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Physical Profile: Jimmy is an overweight white American in his early thirties. He has a very rounded face, big cheeks, a double chin, and wears a trucker hat. He wears a black t-shirt that reads "Heavy Metal". He also wears baggy cargo pants.

Complete Record of Service: This will be Jimmy's first official "mission" with a mercenary group. That however does not mean that he is not qualified. Jim Graves, as he was called during his five year span at NASA, was the youngest computer tech on the staff. He helped program and create the computer systems on several lunar and planetary landers.

After being fired by NASA for dripping ketchup on several pieces of high tech equipment while eating a hamburger in an area he was not authorized to be in, Jimmy turned to hacking. His first attempt at hacking, and the origin of his nickname "The Network", landed Jimmy in jail for three years.

The incident in question was the hacking of all NASA network computer monitors. Jimmy placed a photoshop picture of himself having hardcore sex with the woman who had single handedly fired Jimmy six months prior, on the computer monitor of ever NASA computer. After serving his time in jail, Jimmy Graves returned to the computer tech community, a hero.

Jimmy's name spread throughout the hacking community, landing him jobs on several different private sectors. His most recent span of employment involved decoding and rewriting alien software for military use. Jimmy Graves doesn't get off of his ass for much of anything other than to get another Mt. Dew from the fridge or take a deuce, but due to the large amount of capital that has been offered, he couldn't refuse the the mission in question. In short, Jimmy is a highly capable computer tech, but he doesn't have a clue what he is getting himself into.

"Jimmy's mental capacity is well beyond that of most individuals. His IQ is off the charts, but his focus is sometimes disturbing. When given the ink blot test his answers often had to deal with parts of the female anatomy. I'm going to write it off as a simple lack of sex. I also had to repeat myself several times during the analysis due to his minor hearing loss that he blamed on Metallica and Pantera. I don't know who those two individuals are, but they need to tune down the volume or over the years their loudness may lead to Jimmy's hearing loss. "

-Password cracking

-Indirect attacks

An indirect attack is an attack launched by a third party computer. By using someone else's computer to launch an attack, it becomes far more difficult to track down the actual attacker. There have also been cases where attackers took advantage of public anonymizing systems, such as the tor onion router system.


-Backdoors

A backdoor in a computer system (or cryptosystem or algorithm) is a method of bypassing normal authentication, securing remote access to a computer, obtaining access to plaintext, and so on, while attempting to remain undetected. The backdoor may take the form of an installed program (e.g., Back Orifice), or could be a modification to an existing program or hardware device. A specific form of backdoors are rootkits, which replaces system binaries and/or hooks into the function calls of the operating system to hide the presence of other programs, users, services and open ports. It may also fake information about disk and memory usage.

-Social engineering

Social Engineering is the art of getting persons to reveal sensitive information about a system. This is usually done by impersonating someone or by convincing people to believe you have permissions to obtain such information.

-Viruses

A virus is a self-replicating program that spreads by inserting copies of itself into other executable code or documents. Therefore, a computer virus behaves in a way similar to a biological virus, which spreads by inserting itself into living cells.

While some are harmless or mere hoaxes most computer virus are considered malicious.

I don't know about you all, but I am excited about this RP. I've never been a part of a long lasting survival RP. I've been a part of a "survival" RP, by which I mean a run-and-gun invincible party that is under the guise of a survival RP. I've had high hopes for Extraction ever since Shadow made the upfront note about no one-hit kills.

Anyways, I've been lazy and haven't gotten my character up yet, but that should change today. Also, in reguards to when this starts, my family is going off camping this weekend so it will most likely be next week before Extraction officially begins.

I had no idea... I wanted the rather defenseless engineer that kind of has to stand behind the big guns. I thought it would help increase the fear factor and help get me into character more

Well, guys, here's the way things are lining up. I'm waiting on Christeson and Raptorman's (And I know you've been busy Raptorman, so no worries there.) characters, and intend to start tomorrow or Saturday. If they don't get their characters done on time, then that's perfectly fine, as I am more than happy to drag them along until they are done.

So, tomorrow hopefully, if not Saturday for sure. Sound good? If there's any qualms or worries, please let me know.

Appologies for the double post (and my lying about starting...) but, I am sad to say that Raptorman has informed me he will be unable to participate. Which is fine, just means I now have three redshirts, unless we get more takers.

In other news, I finally finished my character sheet and I am getting started on the opener. So, with any luck, this will be up by later tonight!

Name: Tanis “Coop” Cooper
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Physical Profile: Cooper stands at a decent 5’8” tall, weighing in at 162 of solid muscle. Her dark red hair is cut short, falling to just above her chin. Years of fighting and military service have left her strong in both body and mind, and she has her fair few scars to show. Her skin is pale from long periods of time spent inside armor. Her eyes are a striking grey flecked with bits of green, but they are not her most notable feature. Often, the first thing people notice is her arm. Her left arm is entirely robotic, a heavy duty working model.
Complete Record of Service: Little is known about Tanis Cooper’s life before age 18. She was an orphan; abandoned to the streets of one of the great metropolises of old Earth; she was a street rat. She spent her childhood running with gangs of other children, scavenging to survive. At the age of 18, she enlisted in the military in order to escape the life of poverty.

She spent the next seven years fighting her way up through the ranks, serving to make the galaxy a better place for the common folk that she came from. Protecting those she could, giving others the means to protect themselves. She put most of her money away, her childhood having taught her to keep what she can and only use what she needed. When she was 26, a mission went horribly wrong and she was caught up in a terrible accident. Most of her left arm was blown off and the rest was too mangled to be saved. Luckily for Cooper, her savings managed to just be enough to cover the costs of a robotic replacement, and the medical costs needed to attach it. Unfortunately, during her recovery time she was discharged from the military.

She spent the next year healing, and mastering the use of her new arm. Once she was fully healed, she sought out the only form of employment she could: mercenary work. She quickly found herself as part of the Centari Private Military. She worked hard, and climbed through the ranks to eventually become the Sergeant leading Zeta squad.

I know you've got several players already here... but.. i saw that there's two soldier positions and a tech position un-filled... <.<.... >.>

Would you by chance be accepting more? Or are you closed off? I wouldn't be offended if you're closed off. I just really love this idea, and am huge into paramilitary/military Roles, as well as the whole idea of a GOOD survival story... >:]

As a matter of fact, the positions are open. Technically, I have four positions open, as I don't think Christeson is coming back.

Now, I've named the two soldiers, so if you want to take one of them you'll have to use the names: Jackson Danes or David Lamott.

As far as techies go (and I could really use someone playing one) they're open. No specified genders or names as of yet.

Now, currently the two soliders Jackson and Lamott are staying with the APC just in-case things go to hell in a hand basket. So, they won't be active for this first part and they'll miss the big reveal of what it is that we're all surviving.

Anywho, I'd love to have you if you're interested! Just let me know what position you want, then fill out a character sheet.

I could take a Tech spot. However, if it's something you're willing to consider as well, combining a soldier/tech. What i had in mind was a sort've ex-military SF guy- a linguist who did a lot of computer training and intelligence work etc. during his schooling.

If that sounds like its crossing too many lines- i'd much prefer a soldier spot

Why don't you just go ahead and take one of the soldiers? I'm trying to keep things simple and the techies are supposed to be civvies through and through.

As for the techies being civilians, they're just your run of the mill computer technicians that are employed by Biosyn Corporation. The soldiers are part of Centari Private Military, which is basically a mercenary company that leases out its soldiers to the highest bidder. In this case, Biosyn was the highest bidder and thus Zeta squad was sent to act as an escort for the techies that are under the employ of Biosyn.

that made perfect sense. I already got a feel for the mercenaries and stuff. I read some previous posts, flailing and squealing in my mind a bit... haha... Though i spose i missed the part about the techs. probably because i was overly excited about the entire thing i zoomed through it. ha!

What would you think of me piloting Danes for a bit- until the new positions open up? I could easily do two profiles, unless the 'new' positions are going to have different stipulations...?

And sure, go right ahead and pilot Danes until the new spots open up. If you take a liking to him, you're free to let him remain one of your characters. If not, he can easily be re-made into a NPC and thusly...a redshirt.

Physical Profile: He's got your typical high and tight haircut, sandy blonde hair, with a thin scar about two inches long running a little left of center of his hairline pointing back to his crown. Average height of 6', and a medium athletic build. He's green eyed, and His face is sort of square shaped. Five o'clock shadow, something he's not really used to having due to his continued military habits, now adorns his face from being lazy and lax with his grooming. No tattoos, or other markings of note.

Complete Record of Service: He's done two tours in the war on planet Sahara, a mostly hot and dry climate. Deserts and small greened areas. There were aggressive actions taken between the two ruling parties on the inhabited areas on the surface, leading to the in-step of the United Alliance. His first tour he saw no action, however after his first six month tour he was sent back shortly after, in which his battallion was met with heavy resistance. He also participated in a large flashpoint engagement in the Mobius system, where his unit was perched on the frontlines to establish a strong presence against the agressing commonwealth forces. He was stopped from re-enlisting by catching more word of the Centari private military company.....

Just after getting out of the military, Jackson applied -almost as a joke- to Centari. Upon recieving his enlistment papers, and undergoing their PT testing, he was selected as a member. Ever since, he's been doing contract work for them, attached to Zeta squad.
