IC is Here - Still Recruiting

Current "Contestants" (Or Condemned)

- Matthew Cane - Convict
- Kevin Carter - Thrill Seeker
- "Kitten" Stratton - Convict
- Eva Gett - Trapped Resident
- Kurt Sanger - Convict
- Chrystina Waters - Thrill Seeker

Resources
- World Guns - A website run by a Russian gun nut. Russian gun nuts tend to make American gun nuts look like poncey wimps who wear granny's bloomers. Useful resource with every category of small arms, right up to tripod mounted automatic grenade launchers and .50 caliber machineguns.
- PIMP MY GUN! This website is even more fun than the Ebonics translator; you get to interactively add shit to your guns.

Setting Overview

"This is just satiating human nature with a daily dose of reality TV misery-- someone else's misery." - Andrew Malleus, CEO of Malleus Entertainment.

Basically, the setting is one big urban apocalypse for TV entertainment purposes where the contestants battle each other for the 'prize.' 'Prize' to be determined if people are interested. Basically, the setup is that the characters are dropped into a bombed out, blasted out urban wasteland and have to fight it out with whatever weapons they can scavenge there. Yes, there are guns all over the place. It's Baltimore, after all.

Characters are bound to be either the world's worst criminals, brought in to liven things up and to keep the "Lord of the Flies" spirit alive and well, or hapless residents who are unable to move out of Baltimore for one reason or another as the place is turned into a warzone. But hey, they were warned, right?

This RP is definitely toward the straight, constant combat side of things, with little philosophy involved; it's supposed to be over the top, much like a bad 1980's action movie (like "The Running Man.") I haven't decided if PC's should be pitted against each other or whether or not to throw a bunch of crazy NPC's at people à la "Running Man." So I'll decide that if there's any interest. If nothing else, this one is intended to really be a couple paragraphs per post and fairly fast-paced; a post every three days or so from everyone involved. It doesn't have to be long or fancy, the plot just has to keep moving.

--

It's 2017, and corporations run the world. Granted extra-territorial rights by international law, megacorporations own outright entire small countries and parts of larger ones.

Enter Baltimore, a black hole of development project money, and eternally a nightmare of crime. Brighter Future, a real estate development corporation that was primarily concerned with trying to redevelop Baltimore into something better than it was, recently sold the whole of Baltimore City, lock stock and barrel, in an effort to raise money to pay off its creditors. The buyer, Malleus Entertainment Inc., known for its cutting edge, reality-based "TV that people want but are too afraid to ask for" saw potential in Baltimore's bleak urban landscape.

Malleus Entertainment's previous offerings included such shows as "Faroe Islands Jihad" where militants from Central Asia and North Africa, formerly held in extra-legal limbo upon capture or incarcerated for life, were bought up from their privately-run prison corporations, brought into the idyllic Scandinavian paradise nation (also bought at a bankruptcy firesale) and left to their own devices, resulting in a brutish war between the various factions and natives who became decidedly more militant. The subsequent season, "Faroe Islands Fascism" was also a smash mega-hit, with millions of viewers glued to the carnage. Its MMORPG spinoffs and seasonal DVD releases were also highly popular. Another of Malleus Entertainment's early successes was to apply the 'reality TV' paradigm in "Weekend Warrior for Hire," a show that followed the exploits and adventures of a group of average, middle to upper class Americans and Europeans as they immersed themselves in the Congolese warfare experience as freelance mercenaries, which won the "BEST ON TV AWARD" from Soldier of Fortune magazine and got all the contestants indicted for crimes against humanity in the Hague.

Malleus entertainment promptly announced their intentions to start a new reality show called "Urban Warzone" in Baltimore and bought out the local government contracts and ceased to provide service. So many homes went on sale in the area as to cause the values to plummet, which in turn forced many people to stay, as they could not sell for enough to pay off their mortgages. Those who were left became the unwilling participants in the newest gameshow as the country's prisons gleefully sold off their inmates to Malleus Inc. Malleus, in turn, gleefully dropped the inmates into Baltimore City and sealed off the city using the police force (County and City) that they'd just recently bought and kept loyal through allowing them an extremely generous home buyout plan.

To make things more interesting, Malleus Entertainment intends to drop in supplies to those that hold randomly selected territories of the city, a new one every day. As a result, no one is safe or able to hold down a territory long.

A much smaller test run of the concept was done in a nice suburb in the Midwest, and the sample viewership was wild. Malleus intends to make lots of money off this. The advertisers are salivating, recording artists are pimping their songs on it, and and the viewers are pumped thanks to the marketing blitz. A few intellectual eggheads are moaning about 'bread and circus' but who cares about all that French shit anyway?

--

So people are wondering, "How does the entertainment company get around home owners?"

Easy. They own the government. They stop providing services, criminals run free and things go to hell in an handbasket quickly. Like the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Somalia or Burma, the company is considered a sovereign entity. Rights groups plead, no one listens.

Homeowners stick it out, because they can't actually sell their homes for anywhere near the invested worth. Meanwhile, the cameras are rolling. This serves a use to other companies; when this program rolls, it will be an advertisement for why you don't want Malleus Media to buy your community, and why it might be a good idea to start paying installments to keep the company that DOES own your local government happy.

At this point, the government is a feeble memory of authority that no longer has any bearing on things; it's the raw form free market, baby! Heck, a restriction of corporate rights would mean the military provider corporations that fight the wars would turn on the government.

This background stuff isn't meant to really explain the entire setting, it's just there to provide the framework for why this setting exists as it is. There are no details on the way congress and so forth, not to mention the UN, sold everyone down the river for campaign donations and so forth, because frankly, the details are mind numbling banal...which is why there was little to no citizen outcry when it started.

So yes, this is a dystopian mirror image of a world that probably won't be, but it makes for a heck of a setting. Wink

Characters will be all walks of life, the only criteria is that they live in Baltimore. They can be as crazily armed as you want, because some people have probably been stockpiling up for years ever since the City started turning into a bombed out ghetto since the 1970's.

So yeah, armor plate your trucks, grab your flamethrowers and get ready to be on TV!

Post by Ferrous Miles Thu Aug 13, 2009 7:31 pm

Name: Matthew Cane.

Age: 32

Appearance; Auburn hair, braided, skin appears to be permanently sun burnt, teeth good, build stocky, height 6' flat, weight 183 lbs., strong southern accent. Two tattoos, chains of fire around both wrists, Star of Chaos on left breast over heart.

Equipment: Two Colt M1911 semi-automatic pistols, four magazines each, one Benelli M4 semi-automatic shotgun, fifty 12-gauge shells in bandolier. Assorted hand to hand weapons, including four combat knives, a kukri, a machete, and a three pound sledge hammer. Also two fragmentation grenades, two flashbang grenades, two C4 breaching charges.

Bio: After being convicted of three rapes, six murders, two armed robberies, possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, and four arsons containing an additional two murders, all in the space of three months, Cane was sold to the highest bidder for the purposes of psychological study. After a few months of testing, he was removed from the facility after attacking a female orderly and was due to be executed and shipped to the eggheads for further evaluation. Before his sentence was carried out, however, Malleus paid a seven figure sum to have him turned over to their authority for the purposes of international entertainment.

Psych assessment: Subject Cane's behavior was at first docile, remaining so most of the time. And in such situations that he is in what will here-after be called 'dormant mode', he is able to engage in day to day interaction with his handlers. While in dormant mode, the subject will request tobacco and cannabis, but never any hard drugs. He expressed an interest in music and reading in the same breath as describing the sexual assault of a twenty three year old woman. On that note, he has twice requested conjugal visits, though when questioned as to who with, he just shrugs, or as was the case the first time, leers at the RN. This was the first sign of entering 'active mode'.

Five minutes later, he began screaming slurs and other abuse at the nurse mid-sentence, fighting his restraints, and attempting to bite me from across the table. When the nurse fled the room, he immediately calmed, straightening his posture and smoothing his hair, even grinning at me as if we shared a joke or secret. We continued our conversation, in which he would ask me questions such as my name, drug habits, family, suicidal tendencies. His demeanor is calm with brief spurts of hyper-activity, moral restraint with open malignancy. On the last visit, he contrived to slip his manacles off as I entered the room. Before the handlers could restrain his, he managed to gouge one of their eyes and completely sever the other's finger with his teeth.

He did not reenter dormant mode until several hours later, and even then his behavior was erratic, and he fell into active mode once more at the sound of my voice through a speaker. Further examination unnecessary: This one is perfect. Give him a knife and a bottle of water, drop him in the Kalahari, and the Bushman population will decline rapidly. Reports of his assault on various victims sheds more light on his mental state; When in active mode, his only inclination is to fight like a rabid wolverine until everything around him is dead or, in the case of women, incapacitated enough for him to capture. Advise you keep the camera's rolling when he is in the vicinity of female contestants. Results would prove to be quite interesting.

((Got bored.))

Post by Guest Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:48 pm

Name: Kevin Carter

Age: 28

Appearance: Standing at six feet and weighing in at around 180, Kevin has a nicely shaped build and fairly tanned skin. He's enough to make the ladies fall head over heels...if they weren't whores. The only noticable trait about Kevin is the deep green eyes that can lock onto a target and keep their focus so much that its like they are looking right through you. His brown hair is cut short and has been even since he was discharged from the Marines for a wounded right leg. He has a scar there...the perfect size of a bullet hole.

Equipment: Kevin's weapon of choice is the Colt 6933 M4 Commando assault rifle. The receiver on his is stamped "RESTRICTED: MILITARY/GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT/EXPORT USE ONLY". It makes him proud. His secondary weapon of choice is the Henry US Survival Rifle. The Henry U.S. Survival rifle is ultra-lightweight, weighing in at a scant 2.5 pounds. The unique design allows the rifle to break down easily into three pieces in seconds. This enables the barrel, action and two 8-round magazines to fit comfortably into the tough ABS synthetic waterproof stock. No tools are needed to assemble or disassemble. Once disassembled and stowed, it is only an incredible 16 inches long. He'll carry it in his backpack with room to spare. Finally, Kevin will carry a small amount of smoke and frag grenades. He also has one satchel charge for those...fun...moments.

Bio: After Kevin was medically discharged from military service with the Marines, he moved to Baltimore. Why? He wasn't exactly sure. He wasn't prepared to settle down in a comfortable place like Florida or Europe just yet. He preferred to stay in a rough environment. He supposes that's why chose such a slum like Baltimore. With Malleus taking over and the city officially becoming a war zone. He took out his stash of military-grade weaponry and prepared himself to lock-n-load.

Name: Katherine "Kitten" Statton

Age: 21

Appearance: Kitten is 5'6", weighs about 118 lbs. Has long, black hair, green eyes, and creamy, white skin. She has a tattoo on either side of her shoulders of angel wings and a cross above her breasts.

Equipment: A machete, AK-47 fully automatic 7.62 x 39mm caliber with 30 rounds, Parker-Hale M-85 with a 7.62mm caliber and 10 shot detachable, 10 Russian F1 grenades and a Sig Sauer P220 in .45.

Bio: When Kitten was younger she and her sister had a father who had two problems. One was he was a serial killer who would bring his victims home with him and have the girls help kill them. And two he liked to "play" with little girls. Their father was captured by the police and sentenced to death.

Kitten and her sister went on two very different paths. Her sister became a police officer, a servant for justice, while Kitten became like her father. She killed six of her classmates with a small dagger. Two boys, four girls. They never found out who did it. Three years later, in college, she killed her roommate and her boyfriend. Shortly after that she killed a couple at a party.

It didn't take the police long to find her after the last one since she killed the local chief polices daughter, and she was about to be sentenced to death when she got put into the T.V. show. She's excited to have a reason to kill other people and not get in trouble for it.

My cats are weird...they're like..attacking the screen door or something o_O Also, no residents that just so happen to be there? tsk tsk tsk

Name: Eva Gett

Age: 20

Appearance: Eva is a rather short girl, only just coming in at 5'4" and, as for her weight, that's slightly around average, or so she guesses, being at 127 lbs. Despite this, she isn't all that good at combat, even though her weight would normally give her some sort of speed advantage. She has rather sullen, dark blue eyes, that oftentimes seem to be off in their own little dream world. Her hair is kept semi-long, stopping short just at the middle of her back, while her bangs stop almost perfectly above her eyes. Her clothing, like most, just consists of a simple pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt, sometimes a long-sleeved one, sometimes not.

Equipment: There's nothing outstanding about the equipment she has at all, the majority of it just being the ones given by the company sponsoring or hosting this show. She has the pistol that is the easiest to shoot and carry, while at the same time being the most powerful. Coupled with that are only two other things, a shotgun, that she is not sure of what kind it is, and just a few incendiary grenades, for when things just won't die.

Bio: There's nothing really remarkable to say about Eva, at all. When she was 18 and able to move out on her own, she did so almost instantly, despite how lazy she was, and decided to move to Baltimore, for reasons only known to herself. Often times, she herself isn't sure what drew her to Baltimore either. Anyways, when it was revealed that Malleus was sponsoring a TV show in the area of Baltimore, she knew she didn't want to stay there. Of course, by that time, she had lost track of where the heck her parents lived now, and she couldn't find any place to move to. That, coupled with the fact that she figured if she holed it up in her home she might last or whatever, caused her to stay. Her laziness might have played some part in that as well.

Everyone's approved here, but there are some comments, mostly as applies to weaponry, to consider. For the purposes of this game, you need to remember that the people have to -carry- this shit. Mobility counts.

Approved, but with concerns.

Between the PSG-1 or the M-20, you gotta drop one or the other. I also think there are alternatives to both.

I don't mind the M20, but that's a huge piece of equipment. I mean, much, much heavier than an RPG-7 or similar. The reality is that with all that kit, she won't be able to hump it all. She's 5'6" and doesn't weigh much, and that's a lot on the shoulders and knees.

The M-20 is still a rugged bitch to lug around, and the AMMO is heavy as all getout too - nine pounds per round. Particularly compared to the alternatives.

An RPG-7D3 is a much better option, the paratrooper model that breaks down, though the V2 is in current service with the Russian army. But any ole RPG-7 will do. The rounds are about 6lbs a piece, so she still won't be able to pack the PSG-1 (which is a maintenance concern in the field anyway, owing to it's precision parts -- it was designed as a police sharpshooting weapon, not as a true military sniper rifle.)

I'd recommend a bolt action rifle-- either a military or police model or a hunting model. Most bolt action sniper weapons systems are cheaper than the PSG-1, more durable and generally more accurate -- semi-autos have moving parts on the inside, it throws off the aim just a bit. It's why it's hard to make one that fires sub-MOA accuracy.

I'll be posting a link to a weapons site, my AIM and PM are also open, I'll happily help you select the best sort of kit for the situation and what you want, free of charge. Wink

Approved, but here's some pointers:

I can happily work with you and pick guns. Ease of shooting and availability? The Police in Baltimore city use Glock 17's, the County uses SigPRO (made by Sig Sauer) in .40S&W.

Yes, these would be readily available and easy to shoot.

The most common shotgun in the United States is the Remington 870. And you never need fear that it'll EVER jam up. Mossberg 590's follow, and same with them, except the slide action and receiver's a little rough. But they're mil-spec, and pump shotguns just don't break down.

By the way guys, from here on out, we are using white as a default in all our posts from here on out for readability purposes. The default for FOG is now a little bit daunting for me to read without getting a huge effing headache. I know that sounds very dictatorial, but what can I say?

I am "el Jefe." Wink

Oh, by the way, if you want to use colors to differentiate your dialogue from your prose, feel free. I just don't want to use that default gray color we're using for the moment. Basically, anything but gray.

Character Sheet Format

Name: Kurt Sanger
Age: 35
Appearance: A lean man that stands about 5'10, wiry muscle and a high degree of endurance. He has an intense look in his eyes and a scar along his jaw and around the eye socket; he also is missing a couple fingertips and has a particularly nasty burn scar on his left hand. He has tattoo sleeves up both arms, from wrist to shoulder, depicting flaming skulls and thorny vines.

Equipment:

- M40A3 Rifle, with McMillan A4 stock, Schneider Match Grade Barrel, Schmidt-Bender 3–12× 50 Police Marksman scope, Harris Bipod and loads hand-loaded M118LR-style jacketed rounds.

- Kimber Desert Warrior .45ACP - modified 1911A1, drop holster.

- H&K 416, 5.56mm assault rifle, w/ 4x sight foregrip and three point sling.

- Strider Mark I-A Combat Knife

- 4 Smoke grenades, 2 frags, 2 claymore mines. Wire cutters.

- Leupold 10x50mm Binoculars

- Ghillie Suit, load bearing gear, Crye Multicam pants and top.

Bio: Joined the Marine Corps and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island in 2000, deployed to Afghanistan as part 15th MEU in 2002 as part of OEF. Attended Basic Scout/Sniper School, received 8541 MOS. Assigned to STA 1/7. Deployed in support of OIF in 2004, participated in Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah along with other members of 1/7 Marines. Recon qualified, Airborne School, SCUBA school. Assigned to MARSOC, MSOB-1, Camp Lejeune 2005, activated with unit. Multiple tours Iraq, Afghanistan.

In 2012, he became aware that his wife was sleeping around. Finding out that she'd been unfaithful to him from the beginning, he methodically stalked and assassinated sixteen different men and three women over the period of four years before finally being caught and identified, once he informed his wife that he a) loved her and b) killed every man who ever put a dick in her and c) took care of the 'other' women to make extra sure that he was the only one.

His wife, Sandra, turned him in, afraid for her life and that of his children, even though he'd never so much as laid a finger on them. Sanger was tried, plead guilty on all counts and was promptly remanded to the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, and was sold, voluntarily, to Malleus Media Inc, with all the pomp and circumstance of a sports star signing a new team, due to the notoriety of his case. Despite the fact that Malleus bought his contract, a kill-for-college dollars deal to benefit his children had to be offered for him to actively participate as a contestant.

Psychological profile: Apparently normal, though suffering from a degree of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He exhibits no particular tendency towards random violence, though he certainly is capable of killing in a very methodical and surprising fashion. Test runs in training exercises with other contestants using nonlethal munitions indicates that he is cautious about engaging, though his contract states that his children's college fund receives a deposit for every 'kill' he makes. Recommend a camera feed follow him at all times. Though he may not always be in action, it should be dramatic when he makes a kill. While not technically insane, he has a high degree of sociopathic tendencies.

While not aggressive unless provoked, he did kill a fellow contestant in transit with a garrote after said contestant tried to take away his paperback book at the time. Feels he has little in common with fellow contestants, particularly criminals and seems to look forward to hunting them 'like fuckin' animals.' Considers himself too respectable to shoot 'ordinary' people, though given his history, 'ordinary' is subjective.

Urban Apocalypse - Modern Ultraviolence - Recruiting Empty Re: Urban Apocalypse - Modern Ultraviolence - Recruiting

Post by Resurrection Vic Sat Aug 15, 2009 6:04 pm

Name: Chrystine Katarina Waters (Chrys, Kat)
Age: 34

Appearance: She likes to keep herself covered, often in dark colored long sleeve shirts and cargo pants secured with a leather belt now run rather shabby, but it works(!). A little under five nine (okay she's five seven and likes to believe she's taller), she wears a pair of red and black volleyball shoes. Hidden under the long sleeved shirts are burn scars from her youth, some self-inflicted, others just purposely inflicted. Her blue eyes shine inspite pf her rather dark personality. She carries a large, black backpack. She wears/carries around a pair of welding gloves, even when it's hot. Her waist length auburn hair is kept in a tight bun and she often has a pair of shaded safety goggles resting on her head like sunglasses.

Equipment: "Guns?" What are these guns?
Her cargo pockets hold at least twenty cigarette lighters, a few books of matches and one or two cans of hairspray. Her backpack, on the other hand, has six or so bottles of Jack Daniels, Smirnoff, and Jim Bean(she's been stock piling since she realized she was stuck here) as well as a handheld welding torch from her old factory job. There are also a few rags and such in the bag because you can't bring a blowtorch to a gun fight, but you can throw a molitov cocktail.

Bio: She had been living from check to check before the city was bought out, and then there were the cutbacks with lay offs close on their tail. There was no escape. Too stubbron to go to Nebraska and live with her parents, she accepted her fate and decided to burn those who wished to kill her. Her landlord went first, but he was always a bit of an ass.

By the way, I realized yesterday that a good way to get in my characters head is to write while watching Hannibal Rising.

Scary, neh?

I'm gonna get things started today, I think. I know how to start this one off.

Oh, and bad guy #1 is already figured out. Bad Guys #1 I should say.

Deadliest Vic wrote:Name: Chrystine Katarina Waters (Chrys, Kat)

I'm okay with this, but if she doesn't like guns, why not get a grenade launcher?

M-79 or M-32 MGL, either one is a doozy.

IC is here and we're off! If anyone of the convicts wants to come in with Sanger, feel free. Of course, don't jabber his ear off. Wink Everyone else will have to figure out where they're starting. If you need a tutorial in Baltimore geography, yell. Or just use Google Maps.

Specifically?

Your character sounds like she'd be on the east side, where there's more working class shit going on. They've even got shipyards that way.

Huh...looks like I posted before reading this

Basically, my character is now just going from house to house in Baltimore, changing houses whenever someone discovers where she's at.

That's okay, but just bear in mind that they're rowhouses, and they're mostly pretty run down.

I'm assuming everyone is -fairly- close to I-95, which bisects the city, from the Southern end. Essex is east Baltimore, so if she's moving from that direction into the area, she'll run right smack into where the ABBA's are.
