Everworld Empty Everworld

The RP would be centered around the same universe as K.A. Applegate's book series of the same name, which are without a doubt my favorite novels of all time.

The premise of Everworld is this: ancient mythology wasn't so mythical. It was all very, very real. The gods of ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, the Aztecs, Celts -- and more -- all existed here on Earth, along with magic and mythical creatures beyond number. However, when worship in them began to falter and their human subjects began to turn away, the gods abandoned Earth. They banded together to form an alternate realm in which they could preserve their power. This realm came to be known as Everworld.

But Everworld isn't simply another planet: it's a separate universe and reality altogether. It operates on its own set of distinct physical laws (or lack thereof). It is a patchwork place, with each civilization and their deities inhabiting regions similar to those they left. In other words, the regions sit next to each other like patches in a quilt; one could find themselves wandering from the mountains of Everworld's equivalent to ancient Greece directly into the deserts of Subsaharan Africa in just a few days' walk. But the gods didn't come to Everworld alone; with them they brought all of their mythical creatures as well as thousands of human worshipers.

Very few, if any, of Earth's denizens know of the other realm's existence or that the gods and magic even existed in the first place. The barrier has all but closed between universes; great power is required to open a gate between the two worlds. The Old World, as Earth was known to Everworlders, continued on to become the place we know today. Everworld, meanwhile, stagnated. Gods and civilizations feuded amongst themselves often, seemingly incapable of developing beyond their archetypal personalities and current level of technology and society.

But new visitors arrived in the realm of myths. First there were the Coo-Hatch: an alien species abandoned by their gods. They are peaceful, nomadic traders and masterful metalsmiths. But soon after them came the Hetwan, a humanoid race of sapient insects of unknown origin. The Hetwan are fiercely devoted to their sole god, Ka-Anor. Ka-Anor feasts on other gods to sustain himself and has come to Everworld to feed his seemingly-insatiable hunger... at any cost.

The gods panic as they scramble to meet this new threat, but things look grim. The war has begun; Everworld -- and possibly even the Old World -- will never be the same again.

---------------------------------------------------------

Phew, now that that's out of the way we can get to the details of the RP. Essentially, your character(s) will be from the Old World, or Earth. The details regarding your character would be totally up to you: their name, occupation, age, equipment, skills, personality, etc. Heck, if you want to you could even go so far as to play your real-life self. It's actually a lot of fun considering how you would react in crazy situations and as such I'd highly recommend it, but I digress.

As far as your character is concerned, ancient mythology is just that: myths. He or she is completely oblivious to Everworld's existence until they are unceremoniously pulled across the barrier into the other realm. Your characters will have to form a group that will survive and attempt to find a way out of Everworld. But the journey won't be easy -- you'll have to trade, travel, hunt, run, hide, fight, and even kill to survive. You may find yourselves forming alliances with the "locals" and even stopping (or starting) wars. You may become heroes or public enemies. Your group can be as dysfunctional or cooperative with one another as you please. Everworld and Earth's fate depend on your actions. You could bring peace to Everworld and end up saving both... or you could throw both into unspeakable chaos.

Here's the kicker: your character isn't entirely in Everworld. A second body and consciousness continues to function here, in the "real world". However, when you fall asleep in Everworld your "original" consciousness is transferred back to the Old World for anywhere from minutes to days (time is inconsistent between the two realms). Once your body wakes up in Everworld, your mind gets yanked back over there. As time goes on, you may notice that your experiences in this new realm change you, and your two minds aren't necessarily one and the same any longer...

You may not make it out of this place. But if you do, you won't be the same.
