I dreamed of reaching out for you
I had journeyed on a long pilgrimage
My clothes were stained red
My body weakened, tired
Blood poured from my wounds
My eyes were nearly sightless
My ears were nearly soundless
I could barely manage the strength
To move one foot in front of the other

Thorns and brambles littered the path
And robbers and highwaymen often attacked
I had brought gifts of precious gold and silver
But evil men took them from me
And beat me and left me nearly for dead
The skies often grew dark and heavy with rain
Bitter rain fell into salty oceans below
Masking the terrible tears I wept
Lightning flashed and thunder boomed
Storms often swept that way

The journey was uphill
A tremendous mountain, massive, terrible to behold
Stood still and silent on that journey
Frigid cold attacked near the peak
And I fell the rest of the way down the other side
Stumbling along, staggering, I could barely stand
Yet I made my way around

I saw you shining in great glory
Your beautiful, splendid face turned aside
I called your name
You turned, and cast your gaze down on me
I reached out for you, feeble, meek
You laughed gaily and told me there was nothing to fear
You were Justice, Mercy, Peace, and Love
I was empty, soulless, emaciated and close to Death

You reached out to take my hand
And pull me up on that glorious pedestal with you
Cradle me gently in your arms
Surrounded by the brilliance of aureate day
But suddenly, a great chasm yawed
And it was never-ending, and terrible to behold
It was dark, and somewhere beneath
I knew lay Abbadon, holding Beelzebub prisoner in chains
You smiled once, sadly, a tear lingered on your cheek
You tumbled from your mighty throne
And fell, silent, unmoving into that great abyss
Darkness swallowed you, I screamed

I reached out for you, to save you
But too weak, too tired, from that sad journey
I too followed you
Not in the way I first dreamed of
