Orpheum Child OOC

Orpheum Child, or the youthful spark of initiative that became the drive behind what would become Orpheum Child, was born on May 7th, 2004. The first steps were taken when Alex Ryker convinced Latasha Shilee Hayes to start a band with him. Several days later she convinced a friend of hers, Delylah Jadelyn Lorrim, to join as well. With the three of them handling lead vocals, guitar, and bass they began to write and practice songs. In a matter of months they had a full band roster, though they would see numerous changes to that lineup before the band found their calling as Orpheum Child, named in reference to the haunting of the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee.

They saw the change to a solid, strong, and mature band name with a good reference just before they finished recording their third demo with the members who would be the official ‘original’ Orpheum Child. A few months of waiting for any of the numerous record labels they sent the demo into to respond and they were signed with the local Tennessee based label FogLight Record.

Bio:
Latasha had originally planned to attend a university for graphic art design. By the age of seventeen, when she met Alex, she had been playing bass for a total of six years. The meeting was incidental as Alex was, at the time, dating Latasha’s cousin. After finding out Latasha played an instrument, and later hearing recordings of both her bass playing and singing (provided by her cousin), Alex began to ask her to start a band with him. After several weeks she gave in, and thus ended her path into schooling for graphic design. A few days after agreeing to start the band Latasha asked Lyla to join, completing what is left of the original line-up.

After a couple years of line-up changes and name alterations Orpheum Child had come into their own, named after the haunted Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee. After the recording of their third demo, and having sent it to any and every record label they knew of, the band was picked up by Tennessee based FogLight Records. Their debut album, Our Nonexistent Presence was released on October 13th, 2009.

Bio:

Brock, while born into an alcoholic family, was not one to use this as an excuse to prevent him from doing what he wanted. Everyone gave him sympathy, or made fun of him because of his family, both of which he waved away without a second thought. He was not here for their feelings; he was here for his own spirit. He was going to do what everyone else in his family was unable to do; get on with their lives. So, believe it or not, Brock graduated high school with a 90% grade average, and while not valedictorian, he was within one point of being the prestigious role.

Throughout his life, he had been practicing on his father’s drum set. It was his release from the horrors that the drink had afflicted his family with. He managed to squeeze in an easy two hours per day practicing his technique, or simply rocking out. Soon, his father simply gave him the drum set out of a surprising, and completely rare, moment of kindness. From there, any money that Brock earned went straight into improving the kit. Soon, he was given the nickname of ‘Rock’ around school for his talent, and it stuck.

Brock tried to go on to secondary education, mainly in the field of being a therapist. He figured who better to help people with their problems than one who has been in a similar condition. However, his passion for music was winning over him every time as he soon found himself wanting to play on the drums more than study for school. He ditched the secondary education all together, and ended up with a small time band for awhile. The band name was unimportant, seeing as the whole group lasted about a month before they broke up. Later, Brock heard of another band recruiting members, and was among one of the first to sign up. He has been with the group for little less than a year, but finds that he likes the whole chemistry of the group. Things can get shaky at moments, but where would the passion be without any infighting. Brock tries to bring the light heartedness to the others, and often acts as a joker. His unwillingness to even have one alcoholic beverage may have set him apart from the others before, but now he sees the gap closing ever slowly.

Bio:
Cole was raised in Memphis, and has always been a metal head since he was small. His father was more than happy to pass all he knew onto his son, and his mother was just happy to see her boys spending time together. Of course, Cole was born into a time when rap and hip hop were dominating the airwaves, and he quickly found himself on the outside of the ‘popular’ circles for his music taste, long hair, and choice in dress.

More often than not, he would jump to the defence of his Metal, which often lead to fights. He is more than eager to put idiots in their place, either with a verbal jab or a swift boot to the ass. He works for Foglight Record, and was assigned to be the Roadie/sound guy for Orpheum Child about eight months ago.
