The Kajar

The boogey men of Narrasian history, the Kajar are a nomadic warrior culture to the North West of Narrud. All cultures who meet the Kajar discover and notice several key, common traits; their excessively violent behaviour, brutal way of life and greed. Though the Kajar are a people united by an identical language, culture, religion and ethnic/racial stock… They are not politically united, being divided into several bickering tribes that quite often war with each other as much as foreigners. The Kajar are native to a region known to them as Kajaristan; named after the Kajar themselves, it is a large portion of consistently barren and incredibly cold land. Geographically Kajaristan is primarily open plains, yet contains a substantial amount of harsh, high and snowy mountain ranges. Though these geographical features are not unique to Kajaristan and are just as much typically found in neighbouring nations; Kajaristan is defined by it's harsh cold weather, barren plains and unforgiving mountains.

Kajar culture revolves around both war and survival. Each are seemingly unavoidable and indispensable aspects of their culture, both holding great spiritual significance and in the view of most Kajar form a vital role in their identity. A pastoral nomadic lifestyle is key to life In Kajar culture, entire tribes travelling on horseback and oxen drawn caravans, simultaneously herding their livestock. They survive through raising, breeding and herding livestock such as yak, oxen, pigs and goats towards fertile areas of their land. The Kajar also make a living through the equally important and frequent enterprises of hunting, trade and warfare. Kajar exports typically include livestock and salt as well as finely crafted weaponry and jewellery, animal furs and clothing are also lucrative exports. However possibly one of the most infamous and universally acknowledged exports of the Kajar people… Are their mercenaries.

Ferocious, rowdy bands of Kajar warriors riding out to nations at war in order to hire themselves out to the highest bidder and participate in the most esteemed activity in Kajar culture- Fighting. The Kajar love fighting and seek out combat frequently, whether in an internal conflict with other tribes over grazing land or trade routes- To entire wars with foreign enemies, usually at the same under the employment of the other side. Kajar warriors most commonly hire themselves out to Narrasians; a people they know and have a minor cultural, linguistic and racial relation to. However many Kajar mistrust or hate Narrasians to such a degree that rather than seeking employment from them, they prefer to hire themselves out to the enemies of Narrud. Many others choose to attack Narrasian merchant and supply caravans for an easy and consistent profit.

The relationship between that of the Kajar and their Narrasian neighbours is tense, often hostile. Though the two peoples are not at war, small conflicts are frequent between them. Often through dodgy trade, thefts or cultural misunderstandings; alcohol has also a large part to play. Many Narrasian taverns, even entire towns refuse entry and service to Kajar as a preventative measure to ensure no risk of the Kajar's violent, often alcohol fuelled misadventures. Many Kajar travellers refused entry to a town or tavern will post themselves outside, harassing or even fighting with those leaving or entering. Some Narrasian towns even pay Kajar visitors not to make trouble, such an appeal to the Kajar's strong sense of honour and their pockets has many times proved a very successful method… For those willing to cough up the money. Narrasian home guard is often dispatched to police or repel unwanted Kajar tribes; the Northern  border of Narrud is heavily guarded against potential invasion from Kajaristan and the Shang Empire. Much of the strategy Narrasian armies employ against Kajar war bands is simply to outnumber them, effectively combating the superior quality of Kajar warriors with the far larger quantity of Narrasian soldiers.

The Kajar have had little contact with those further South; only ever encountering the likes of Hasharans and Yassurites in combat when fighting as mercenaries for Narrud. Kajar have often matched their ferocity, bravery, skill and brawn against more organised, battle savvy cultures in the South. The extreme heat of lands to the far South places a great handicap against the Kajar. Though it is uncommon for the Kajar to venture too far South, they still form racist and stereotypical views of those of the far South; often viewing them as smelly, unhygienic and a-moral. The Kajar relish the opportunity to strut about in foreign nations and show off their skill a warriors, brutal mindset and physical power. Many of distant cultures see the Kajar as complete savages, many amongst those view them as being completely disagreeable to co-exist with. The Kajar love for fighting and money frequently alienates them from other peoples, a constant burning of bridges and confrontation on the part of the Kajar. Some neighbouring or nearby cultures attempt to kill Kajar on sight, firmly believing that no good can come from their presence. The Narrasians however, having shared a long and at times very bloody history with the Kajar- See their use and value… So long as they can be controlled.

"When in Narrud, the Kajar often camp along the busiest of trade routes. Small towns made up of hundreds of yurts, caravans and temporary fencing; travellers are often harassed by swarms of screeching old or pregnant women trying to sell wares such as jewellery, weapons or furs. Many gangs of teenage Kajar girls mug more vulnerable passers by with knives and swords; while adult women in their prime typically join the men on hunts or other activities. People of all ages can be seen training in the skills of war all day round, come night fall; mobs of drunken Kajar warriors of both genders are frequently seen and heard fighting amongst each other… Sometimes playfully, but on occasion some individuals will take up arms against each other." - Hashan Ebin Azir, Narrasian geographer and scholar.

"Even if not in the line of sight, a Kajar's presence is seldom unknown. The men bark loudly at one another in Kajari, while the women screech incoherently as they speak. When the Kajar roam through civilised settlements they are always an unwelcome disturbance, often drunk and quarrelsome amongst them selves, as well as with others. They love combat and are quick to violence, fighting like rabid dogs they use almost any means at their disposal in order to achieve victory- However their initial reason or motive for fighting is almost always petty and trivial." - General Mahud Ebin Hassad of the Narrasian Empire.

"A pack of uncivilised cut throats and bandits, the Kajar are skilled warriors and masters of the sabre. Easily out witted and cheaply bought, they fight with little civility or decorum. They follow their greed like starving whores and are not above turning against their employers in the pursuit of greater profit." - Commander Sharif Golshiri of the Narrasian Empire.

"The Northerner is a strange and homogenous creature. We generally think of those to the North as being simply that. However I have found this to be far from the truth; among the many tribes and kingdoms, none pronounce themselves so strongly as the Narrasian Empire and the tribes of Kajaristan. Narrsians are a people of cheap words, cheap wares and little courtesy. They hold human life in little regard, their values, habits, attitudes and traditions bare uncanny resemblance to the Yashuri. Narrasians are greedy, deceitful, underhanded and filled with jealousy; they are covetts and a people of dishonestly. They guard their women far more fiercely than any other man, they treat all others including their own people with suspicion and mistrust. Undoubtedly Yashuri traits… Narrasians are organised, but immoral. Prolific, but lacking in individual quality or virtue.

The Kajar are a people of violence, hatred and greed. While admittedly they are exceptionally skilled warriors, mastering the arts of the sword, horsemanship, archery, knife fighting and unarmed combat- They are tactless people with little thought for consequence or respect for the laws of others. They leave their homeland to travel like a plague that spreads amongst houses. Dealing damage to all they encounter and decaying the works of superior cultures with their presence. They are the bane of Narrud, despite their talents of for craftsmanship and art- The Kajar are a simple minded people prone to bickering and senseless violence, their merchants possess little business ethic if any. They are a venom for any civilised people and viciously inject themselves whenever given the chance.

However strangest yet are the hidden and vast Empire known as the Shang. Far more bizarre than the blue eyes of the Kajar or the black skin of the Southern tribes, the Shang possess extremely narrow, slanted eyes. They are typically thin, gauntly people. Their men have trouble growing any subtantial facial hair, their women are generally soft featured, softly spoken and very fragile. I have found the Shang to be considerably greedy, superstitious and separatist. Their speech is bizarre, their customs strange and their attitude towards life in general completely alien. They are a people fixated on luck and fortune, constantly striving to influence the scales of chance. Always trying to manipulate odds, they initially seem to be a joyless people. However they have a very tightly knit and strong sense of community, like Narrasians the Shang have a talent for organisation. The Shang are with no doubt a merchant culture, having a knack for business and a good sense of judgement. Like the Kajar they intricately excel in unarmed combat, but lack the stomach for extreme violence or capability for enduring great physical hardship. The Shang and Kajar have had a great deal of contact and conflict between one another, many Kajar branding them as soft and cowardly. But praising their cunning and intellect. My time in Shangur has shown me that despite their individual motivation for wealth,  the Shang commit themselves to the greater good of their society. They greatly appreciate and invest in industry and invention, they commit themselves to achieving their goals through what ever methods available and required. - Abarahn Shalull, anthropologist and geographer of Hashar.




Each Kajar tribe is led by a Tarkhan; an individual generally produced from the tribes wealthier families. The Tarkhan is a militaristic leader; though having the same level of involvement and decision in every day affairs of the tribe. A Tarkhan is expected to be a highly skilled and mercilessly ferocious warrior of sound tactical mind. Though in times of tribal division the Tarkhans represent the ruling class; there are periods of time where the Kajar are united under the banner of a single Tarkhan… Or Kazyan Gul, as it is referred to in Kajari. The Kazyan Gul is the equivalent to that of an emperor, however possessing an experienced military background and having no birth right into their position. A Kazyan Gul achieves their power through military conquest and besting the other Tarkhans in winning over the support of the people.  The remnants of the Tarkhanate make the choice between submitting to or fighting against the Kazyan Gul. Those who accept the establishment of the Kazyan Gul serve under him/her as officers and generals.

A Kazyan Gul who has ascended into their title by killing the previous Kazyan Gul is known as "Sharukhan", the word roughly translating to "Assassin general" or "usurper". A Kazyan Gul achieving the title of Sharukhan is an individual of strongly validated power and is rarely questioned by the Kajar people.

From the age of four or five, Kajar children begin their training in the art of war. This process is a brutal and long introduction and preparation into a life of violence, brutality and endurance. At the age of Seventeen a Kajar becomes an adult, while this is considered a great day for a Kajar boy… The greatest celebration and adoration on such a day comes to the daughter- What the Kajar call a Sabari is the beginning of adulthood for a Kajar girl, it is considered one of the greatest days in a Kajar woman's life- Perhaps one of the happiest. As a Kajar girl of Seventeen is showered with gifts, praise and thrown a big party- No expense is spared, as it is considered the party to stand over all others. Anyone who should dare bring disruption, violence or negativity to a Sabari is subject to a gruesome beating and/or death at the hands of the Sabah's parents… As well as the Community.

Kajar marriages are a frantic, often extravagant affair. Primarily focused on the brides needs, wants and well being… However it is also expected that the groom is well fed and surrounded by friends. Kajar men propose to a woman on both knees, bowing subserviently they offer both a piece of silver jewellery (Symbolising the mans commitment and loyalty to the woman) as well as a tool kit containing a collection of knives, utensils, sewing equipment and other items in a leather pouch (Symbolising the mans respect and appreciation for the work women do). Like their Sabari, Kajar brides are spoiled during their wedding period, it is tradition for Kajar brides to wear red during the ceremony, as well as plenty of silver jewellery (Silver representing loyalty and honesty). Kajar weddings feature the best food available, as well as plenty of alcohol and the finest of entertainment (Drummers, bands, sword tricks and "comedians"). A couple to be wed is forbidden to consume alcohol for 6 days prior to the ceremony. Until the couple is officially married, then after; many couples are known to drink them selves into a stupor. During the after party, the married couple are expected to dance together, being showered with coins thrown to them by friends and family- A communal contribution to the cost of their wedding. Like the Sabari, no excessive drunkenness, loudness or any violence is tolerated from guests during wedding ceremonies. Those individuals who break the rules find them selves angrily beaten and stabbed to death by the couples family and friends.

Kajar Warriors

The Kajar have been reputed and acknowledged as some of the greatest warriors in the world. The prowess of the Kajar warrior begins with their fearlessness or bravery and staggering endurance. Kajar warriors are trained in the Kajar martial arts and conditioned from a very young age not only to be exceptionally skilled with their weapons, but to be unrivalled in their ferocity, strength and hardness. All Kajar are raised to be tough, Kajar warriors are trained to feel little or no pain from attacks or methods that would otherwise cause excruciating pain.

Kajar warriors are expected to be strong, resilient and fearless. To be skilled in unarmed combat and in terms of weapons, in the very least skilled with the "Sharbilya esh Kard" (Sword and knife). Both weapons holding a vital and indispensable part of the Kajar Warrior's equipment. The sabre and knife are the foremost weapons of any Kajar warrior and are the first weapons they learn to use. Shields, bows and axes offer them selves as commonly used weapons of war and tools in every day life. Other skills typical of the Kajar warrior include Horsemanship and Archery, though the Kajar are notorious for their swordsmanship… Kajar armies are typically mounted on horseback, massacring their enemies in brutal cavalry charges. Kajar warriors are no stranger to the bow, peppering their enemies with arrows to weaken them- Particularly when their foe outnumbers them.



Kajar to English dictionary: The Kajar language (This will be gradually added to like the rest of the profile.) is a mixture between languages of the real world and shit that I just made up on the spot. Upon it is an influence from Magyar, Arabic (Seems out of place doesn't it?) and Turkic languages. Key tricks with getting a sense of pronunciation are, KH represents that fucked up KHHAAA phlegmy K sound that Arabic, Hebrew and other Semitic languages make, and also that the Kajar roll their R's.
