I'm new. Here, at least!
What to say of myself. . .mm. I lead a rather uneventful life with a lot of free time. RPing has been a hobby of mine for a very long time, at least a decade. I'm a pretty character-based RPer, rather than a story-based RPer, meaning - to me - that I tend to make one character at a time, and play them obsessively until they've been exhausted of all entertainment value. This took six or seven years for my previous character, and my current one is a little over a year old, or something like that.
I generally measure my posts by words, rather than sentence numbers, simply because it's faster for me. Short posts are 500 words (and I consider that a babypost), long ones are around 2,500. I think my average post is between 900-1,200 words somewhere. Most of the content of my posts is internal monologue. I find it enjoyable to write, and very helpful toward building deeper characters and plots. Also, it's just how I go about crafting posts these days, more than a conscious stylistic decision.
Non RP interests! Well, my main one is the music I obsessively listen to--so much so that I've twined it into an RP interest, too. I like pretty obscure music. Let's name drop!: Swans/Angels of Light, Crime and the City Solution, Larkin Grimm, Current 93, Foetus, Cop Shoot Cop, Einstuerzende Neubauten, The Dirty Three, The Cramps, Elysian Fields, PJ Harvey, The Birthday Party (and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds if I'm feeling charitable), Flux Information Sciences/Services, Gogol Bordello, The Gun Club. . .I think that's good. The Silent Hill soundtracks (the first four, at least) are the only game soundtracks I actually listen to with any frequency, possibly because they remind me of Soundtracks For the Blind-era Swans. My point in name-dropping all these bands is, I'd be way excited to find more people who like them, and/or similar music, because they seem so rare in RPing communities.
I do play video games (Bioshock, Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, some indies like the Binding of Isaac and Recettear), but I generally can't seem to hold interest in talking about them for long.
I keep up with True Blood and Supernatural, though I'm not heavily involved in fandom in the usual way. While I like the shows and will continue watching them until they have entire episodes dedicated to the actors farting on each other's faces, I'm not as fanatical about them as my choice of RP basis would make you think. I just love True Blood's concept! I also keep up with Louie and Breaking Bad, as still-airing shows go. I meant to keep up with Doctor Who, The Walking Dead and Dexter, but they've been hanging out unwatched on my DVR for some time now.
I generally don't like anime, probably because I'm bitter and jaded about the impact it's had on RP. The two exceptions are very disparate, though! I love Nana and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Nana's stopped and can be found on Netflix; JoJo, anime-wise, is new and still airing in Japan, without official US release. The manga have been around for ages, though. Basically Nana's got pretty art and is a really powerful drama relating to female friendship and romance (and, perhaps, the women not considering one another as valid options for romance, and the ruin that comes of that). I cried so many times the first time I watched it, it was shameful! JoJo, on the other hand, is a ridiculous action anime full of muscly dudes beating each other up in over-the-top ways. Its naming schemes are choked with western musical references, and it really seems to have a sense of humor about being ridiculous, which I like.
Being a completest, I've already filled out an extensive character profile, which you can find in my profile and in the genre thread above. I'll be putting up a (probably small) idea thread soon. I welcome brainstorming!
I've honestly had a lot of trouble finding RP around the internet, so I hope to have better luck here.

Welcome to the boards, Somniloquist! I see you've already found interest for your role-play here, which is awesome (especially with how slow we've been...).
Good luck with your role-play!

Yeah, two responses in one day! That's unheard of! I hope I manage to pull it off. I put what had started out as essentially a private request thread in the 'Advanced' section, because I was sleepy and dissatisfied with my other searches, haha. Sometimes me being sleepy is kind of like being drunk. "Advanced? Yeah, I'm advanced! Fuck yeah! GIVE IT TO ME. I DON'T WANT NONE OF THAT SHALLOW NONSENSE. GIMME FULL HUMAN BEINGS. I'M SO ADVANCED." I mean, if I pull off the plotting side of it, I'm sure I'll do fine. But I realize now I was being silly.

Welcome to the FoG! Advanced only means the writers tend toward rather epic posts. If you're more interested in private role plays until you get more comfortable, that'd be the ... wait for it ... Private Role Play Section.
I kill me! But, seriously, welcome to your new writing and role playing home.

I see you dove right in, Somniloquist! That's awesome. It's good to see that your interest check took off, and I look forward to seeing more "info drops" from you in the future
We've been having an issue here of new members getting PMed advertisements of other websites. If you get a message like this, would you please let me know? Thanks!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. See you around!

Re: I'm new. Here, at least!
You used 'disparate' in a sentence. We can be friends.
Welcome to the FOG, Somniloquist!
You'd be surprised how many of the writers and posts in the "Casual" section have posts worthy of our Advanced criteria. Advanced just has the bar there. The glorious, impenetrable bar of Thou Shalt Not Post Less Than This. Technically it's possible to have an "Advanced" post with only 60 words. That's a lot of subject-predicate to string up in a row, but as long as there are the right number of separate thoughts (separate but not disparate), more power to them.
I see you're already deep into the mists! Do enjoy the sights and the whims of adventure, and if you have any questions along the way, please feel free to ask.
Welcome again, and happy writing!

Re: I'm new. Here, at least!
Looking at the requirements has inspired me to try and curb my run-on sentences in other RPs, so there's that, at least. I barely seem able to finish a thought without having another one related to it. Bah.
I haven't received any PMs at all, let alone spammy ones, but I've looked at that topic, and will definitely mention it if it comes up.

Welcome to FoG! And yay for a fellow Final Fantasy player! *high fives*
I'm glad to hear that you're getting interest for your RP. That's awesome! Best of luck with it, and happy writing! Please ask if you have any questions, but otherwise enjoy your stay!
