“We’re going to steal a god.”

Those were the first words he spoke, staring down each member of his crew. Both fists were planted firmly on the plasteel table that took up the center of the common room and he leaned his weight on them, eyes flicking between the members of his crew. Most had been with him for a few years, but there were a handful of newcomers who had just barely signed on when he went looking to fill up the open slots on his team needed for the coming job.

Confused and skeptical expressions met his gaze at the announcement. “I know, it sounds crazy. But our employer is paying big for this job. They sought out us specifically. And if we can manage to pull this off, we’ll finally have enough to pay off everything. All the debts, all the bounties, everything. With more than enough to spare. Don’t give me that look, I wouldn’t lead you wrong.” He pushed himself up and straitened, squaring his shoulders. “Before anyone asks, yeah, there’s a catch. Our employer doesn’t know where this god is located. So not only do we have to steal it, but we have to find it first. Without drawing unneeded attention to ourselves.”

He started pacing; slow and methodical. Three steps to the left, pause, turn and then three steps to the right. “Same goes as always; if you’re not feeling up to the job, then you can sit this one out, stay on the ship.” His eyes flickered to the new crewmembers briefly. “I expect nothing but the best from you. The fact is, we need this job. We’re out of places to hide, out of favors to call in. We’re desperate. End of the line. We fail, its over. We’re done. So nothing but the best is going to cut it!”

He stopped dead center, his face grave. “We’re en route to Tarq, we’re we’ll be meeting with an information broker who has our first lead. Get some sleep. You’re going to need it.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are part of the crew of Aeon’s Lament. A ship that sells its services to the highest bidder. You’re procurement specialists, and each of you has a shady past. For whatever your reasons, you joined up with the crew. Most of you have been serving aboard the crew more or less happily for several years. A few of you have been part of the crew for only a few short weeks. It doesn’t matter now, because you’re last job went bad and you made a lot of enemies. Now, you’ve been given one last shot to right everything, to erase all the wrongs. You’ll be searching for clues, and working together in a race against time. People will be coming for you. They will be trying to kill you, to stop you, anything to slow you down. You’ll be uncovering things, learning secrets. Secrets are dangerous things, they’ll make you dangerous people. In the end you’ll have to choose. But some secrets aren’t meant to be kept.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, here’s the deal. This RP is all about working together and cooperating. That means that I want you people to work with each other when making your characters and making your bios. There are only two slots for new crew members. The rest will have been on the crew for at least three years, if not longer. You’ll each have a specialty. Only one person per specialty, first come first served. And just because you apply, doesn’t mean I’ll accept your characters. Feel free to keep your bios short, but if there are big surprises in store that you don’t want anyone to know about, let me know through a PM. This is a dark scifi, meant to be very gritty. Keep everything scifi-realistic, and if you have questions about anything, let me know. If you’re not sure about if something will fit into the setting, ask before you post. That’ll save everyone a lot of time and effort.

What's the universe/world like? Empire building Earth? Individual space-faring corporations and individuals? Space-based military? Alien contact yet?

Name: Dianna Henricksen

Synopsis: Former Marine, convicted murderer and member of the group for 2 years.

Avatar: Prometheus Armorup-2-1

Description: 5' 11" of lean muscle and quiet intensity. Dianna is a 35 year old veteran. She has pale blond hair cut even with her jawline. In repose, her face is pleasant, though unremarkable. Her eyes are such a pale gray, they almost appear white in certain lighting conditions. Her skin is also quite pale, obviously, she doesn't get outdoors much. Around her wrists and ankles are scars made by manacles.

Personality: Dianna is a quiet, intense person. She does nothing halfway. She plays hard, works hard and when she fights, she kills. It's a philosophy that's kept her and her squad-mates alive. She has a code of honor that only she seems to understand. Authority doesn't automatically come with bars on a uniform. It's earned. When she gives her respect it's to the very end. No questions. If betrayed, nothing short of killing her will stop her from exacting revenge.

With peers, she can fall into the easy camaraderie and banter all military barracks seem to foster. She isn't stand-offish or pretentious. But, sometimes, it looks as if she really doesn't always get the joke, almost as if her sense of humor was stunted.

Equipment: Heavy shot gun (with incendiary and AP rounds), pistol, SMG, tactical armor, combat knife, normal kit, clothes.

History: Dianna was born and raised on a small colony planet called Endriken. Its only purpose for existing seemed to be a huge supply of mine-able ores for different industrial corporations. Her childhood was uneventful in comparison to the unrest and tension throughout the rest of the Universe it seemed. And that made it boring. Suicidally so. While her Father worked long shifts in the mines, Dianna's mother drifted further and further in a black depression. Dianna watched in futility as her mother's mind drifted away and finally, when Dianna was 7, her mother finally took her own life and Dianna's innocence with it.

Neither Dianna nor her Father really recovered from the loss. Her father became distant and either worked himself nearly to death or attempted the same with drink.

A few years went by in this purgatory of unlife when Dianna began to grow more and more unhappy with the isolation of the mining colony. When a recruiter came visited the planet, Dianna volunteered immediately. In two days, she found herself aboard ship with Enriken growing smaller in the view screen. Dianna sailed through her basic training where her quiet intensity quickly led her to squad leader. She excelled in all the physical training, but her skills in leading others lacked because she simply didn’t seem to relate on a personal level with the others. Her file was eventually passed over for promotion. With her training complete, Dianna was sent to Earth to be assigned to the 103rd Division. Her training honed her natural athletic ability and focused her intense resolve. She was assigned to the cruiser, SS Omaha. She saw many battles at the edges of the territories against pirates and terrorist groups.

She served with unyielding bravery and grew close to her squad mates. She never questioned their orders, she gave complete loyalty to her superiors until a particularly bloody and disastrous skirmish at the outer reaches of the Amun system. Only 40 of the initial 800 Marines sent in to shut down a Pirate colony survived. It was eventually revealed that the commanding officer of the Omaha had decided to move against the stronghold without waiting for back up and seriously underestimating the fire power he would be up against. Rather than backing off, the commander had simply thrown more marines at the problem to even more bloodshed.

When the dust settled and the truth had come out about the commander's negligence, Dianna seemed to take it more personally than most. During the court martial back on Earth, Dianna waited and when the inevitable happened and the Commander walked away with a new ship and a new crew, she couldn't take it. She saw him as someone who simply threw lives away and showed no respect for those under his command. Since he was likely going to do it again, she made a pre-emptive strike. She walked up to the man, snapped a crisp salute, which he returned and she promptly shot him in the head through the back of his hand. She didn't run, simply remained standing at attention over the dead man's body until the Military Police arrive to wrestle her to the ground.

Her trial was swift and she was sentenced to a life sentence in the Military prison there. She is kept in isolation and evidently forsaken by the military. But, she no longer feels her loyalty to them as she once had. They didn't deserve it, she'd gotten her vengeance. She was content for now. Dianna escaped the prison she’d been housed in over 4 years ago and joined the team two years ago. Thus far, she has proven herself to be cool in a fight and never seems to raise her voice. A few of her team mates aren’t sure she’s quite right in the head, but they can’t put their finger on why they feel that way though.

Specialty: Armed and Unarmed combat

Name: Nigel Cartwright

Age:Twenty-Nine

Sex: Male

Appearance: Five feet nine inches of athletic build that easily concealed under the proper clothing. His skin is dark, as is his coarse hair which is cropped close to his scalp, though not so close as to reveal the tattoos (old-school cyberpunk style: Numbers, bars, geometrical shapes, etc) without warrant a near obsessive search. He does well to hide the few scars marring his torso, remnants of his youth.

Bio: Nigel grew up in the packed, poverty stricken underside of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. As with his peers, the conditions in Port Elizabeth forced Nigel to grow up fast. Gang life became their way to survive. It was here Nigel began to show a knack for learning where to get things and how to get things, ranging from particular goods to sensitive information. Later, in his early twenties, Nigel took a chance to get off earth by joining a private owned merchant freighter.

He took the first chance he had to get off the freighter, ending up on a moderate trade station. Since then he made a living as an information broker of sorts, until a particular deal went bad and he was found himself on the run in a gun fight. He escaped his assailants by dodging onto the Aeon’s Lament, whose crew believed the ship had been attacked and retaliated. Since then he’s become a full fledge member of the ship.

Specialty: Procurement of goods and information

Personality summed up by third party:
"He has a friendly confidence to him, makes people think he can be trusted."
"Can he?"
"No."

Name: Sevin Titus

Age: Fourteen

Sex: Male

Appearance: One might mistake Sevin for the perfectly average pre-teen spacer; he's got the pale skin of someone who grew up in deep space, rarely exposed to much real sun. Chocolate hair, and lanky as you can get at 5' 2". The gray jumper's nothing special, though not many kids have quite that many electronics hanging from their belt. The illusion of normalcy falls apart when one takes a good look at his face. It's in the scars across his temples, the bridge of his nose, and upper cheeks. It's in his expression, the flat seriousness even most adults never grow into. Never mind his glassy, cobalt-blue synthetic eyes. He doesn't have pupils, you never know what he's looking at.

Bio: His parents being fairly well-to-do planetary survey contractors, Sevin grew up on the fringes of colonized space surrounded by yesteryear's tech, low gees, and typically less than a centimeter of plasteel between him and a vacuum. He talked with computers more often than people, even before the incident. His parents' luck ran dry, and they were desperate enough for work to sign into some shady contracts. One wrong step made them an enemy that cared just enough to sabotage their survey craft's reactor. Luckily, they were in port running systems checks when it blew.

This was hardly five years ago, and apart from losing his parents, Sevin bears the scars. Aside from numerous broken bones, shrapnel ruined both his eyes, and his extended family was barely able to pay for quality synthetics. That and rehab. And the psychologists, who were quite concerned that he'd severely withdrawn from human contact and spent nearly all of his time with computers.

Presently, on every official channel Sevin Titus is listed as missing; he ran away, but not before he had the institution's computer system tied up in knots right down to the backups. Since no legitimate business could employ him due to his age and status, he's worked under the table for anyone who'd take him, jumping from job to job. The captain of the Aeon's Lament heard tell of him a couple years back, and recruited him. He can usually be found in one corner or another of the engine core room.
