Fate, I know exactly what you are going through as I am going through it myself...too "educated" to get even a minimum wage job and too "inexperienced" to get a decent job...Substituting was alright but it's summer time now...

I know how hard it is to look at that degree and how meaningless it feels. All I can say to you is, there may come a time when you are really glad you got it. It just ain't right now.

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(

Post by Fate Flyer on Mon Jun 27, 2011 1:18 pm

I woke up this morning in tears from a horrible, terrible, depressing dream. I hate that, because dreams can feel so real and can physically effect you and your emotions. Though the dreams themselves may not be real, the emotions are.

Additionally, I come to find out a long-term online friend who has been with us here since the very beginning whom I recently invited back here/reminded him of us after we upgraded to FoG 2.0, since he hasn't been as active lately, has decided to not be a part of our community any longer. Even after all the trash talking of another community and having dealt firsthand with the immaturity and lack of leadership or personal care for members, or the other extreme of choosing favorites, not to mention their extreme decline in activity, he has decided to return to them.

I don't mind if you're a member of multiple message boards, as I myself am and run two currently, in addition. But I consider this a personal blow and a disregard for our friendship. I always took the time and care to hold a friendship with this person since we started role-playing together, and we've been through a lot of RPs together in the course of time that we've known one another. They held no attachment to the admin there, and in truth, I even was witness to their admin bad talking him back, so I cannot wrap my head around him choosing them over us and me personally. I feel as if I've lost a friend, and that is upsetting and hurts. Sad For someone that I've known for years, it's quite puzzling why they would just up and go back to a place they were unwanted at, when I always was here.

I've had dreams like that as well, Fate, and I agree that they can definitely be unsettling. For me at least, the raw emotions of those dreams tend to fade pretty quickly, but the images (or at least a vague recollection of them) do stick for a while.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Sometimes it's hard or even impossible to understand why people do certain things that, to us, make no sense. The only advice I can give is to be there for him if he gets burned by this other forum, and hope that after enough time, he'll feel like explaining his reasons for his actions. And most of all, please try not to take it too personally, though I know it's really easy to say that and harder to put into practice. I know I don't know you as well as this other person, but I have seen nothing but a kind, caring person who is supportive and encouraging to her friends. You deserve friends like that as well Hug

Thanks for you kind words, Silvan. You're such a sweetheart, and I'm so glad to know you. Hug I've never been one to hold grudges, so I'm sure I'll be over it soon, but despite that, I do tend to get worked up and really emotional initially, which is what makes things hard when they do happen. Thank you again, hon.

Only ever had one dream like that myself really. I mean, a few bad dreams over the years but they were easily shaken off. There was only one dream though that was that bad. And for far from the normal reasons people say dreams are 'bad'. But! To the point... that sucks Fate. Sad

Complaint? Only one complaint in the entire universe right. I hate, more than I can describe, being stuck down here, not being able to physically be there for her when she is going in to find out the results from the MRI...

Fate: Awww...thank you! I'm always happy to help anytime ^_^

Mel: I don't know the whole story, but I'm guessing you have a female loved one (girlfriend, wife, female relative?) getting an important MRI? I'm sure she still appreciates knowing that you are supporting her in spirit even if you can't be there in person. I hope everything turns out well.

Minor complaint, but I'm frustrated that the database that I need to do a literature search for my thesis proposal is down right now. I feel really behind on designing the methods for my thesis study, and the first free day I have to actually sit down and work on it, I can't even get to the database I need. I can dredge through some PDFs I already have, but I need to pull some new ones too. That, and I have very little motivation to sit here in my office and work. Blah...

Yes, Silvan. Had the MRI last Wednesday. Finding out the results today and just worried and such. Still, she does though. Smile Thank you. Smile

And that sucks the database is down. Though all I can say for that last part is... how often do any of us have the motivation to work? Laughing

I really wish that downloading Star Wars: The Old Republic Beta would go a little quicker. I was super excited and thrilled to have been chosen to be a tester, but I'm afraid about not being able to even play the game. Apparently, most people can install it and start playing within a day or two. For me, it may take a week, and I'm unsure why. I've already ran into one problem where it was unable to patch something and just froze, and so I had to completely uninstall it all and then reinstall it and start over from the beginning. *grumble*

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(

I have been trying SO HARD since Tuesday, July 5th (the day I was invited by Bioware to be a tester) to download and install Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO, and I keep encountering errors. It does not help that it takes over a day just to download and install one single part out of 40 parts total. I have been doing all kinds of reading on their tester forums (which are hidden to anyone whose account is not a tester, otherwise I'd share the threads about all this frustration), and it seems like LOTS of others are experiencing this same issue.

It almost sounds like it could be a problem with Windows 7 64-bit, but who knows. Almost everyone who are getting errors have Windows 7, but some people have the game running fine who have that OP. I'm so lost right now. I'm not a computer techy person to begin with, so I have Axiom here this weekend, and he's really into solving problems and is awesome with computers (heck, he built both of ours), yet even he can't solve this. He's done everything under the sun, and nothing is working. To me, it seems as if these errors are something that is wrong on their end and not on any of ours, and that is something that they REALLY need to fix before the game is released to the public, because if it goes from hundreds of people to experiencing problems downloading and installing to thousands or tens of thousands, this potentially ground-breaking MMO is going to fail so bad as soon as it is launched, and that is upsetting.

Thanks, Dreamless Days. I hope it works out too! I'm still trying... T_T

I am having so much stress moving, and I'm not even moving until a month from right now.

I just found out that there's a $200 move-out fee. Have you ever heard of that before? In order to leave, you have to pay $200, which goes toward nothing. If there are problems with your unit, that gets taken out of your security deposit, like it should, but this extra fee is just some extra money in their pocket since I'll be leaving and they won't be getting rent money from me anymore.

I also need to clean the self-cleaning oven, which apparently takes 3 hours to do, and if I don't do it, it costs $200 for their guy to. Then I even have to shampoo the carpets, which is not something I've ever heard of an apartment making their tenants do. It's always their job to do stuff like that before new people come in, at least from all my experience living in apartments. So, if I don't do that, that's another $150 for them to. I also have to make sure everything else in the apartment is clean, otherwise it's more money on top of that they'll take out of my security deposit.

In addition, I only get a 3-hour time frame (I believe is what it is, maybe less) to move out. I'm not sure what happens if I need to exceed that time allotted to me, but that's all the time I'm given, and I'm also not allowed to gradually move out by moving things out ahead of time. I don't understand why they have all these rules and restrictions that I've never even heard of before. It's just all really ridiculous, and I'm so stressed out.

That's absolutely preposterous.... I'm pretty sure they can't legally bar you from controlling what is lawfully your property and deciding when and where to move it. As far as shampooing carpets and cleaning ovens go, that's there nit-picky thing, I guess and there's not much you can do. But yeah... the moving restriction is absolute bull shit. I say: give them the proverbial finger and do whatever the hell you want and when you want to do it. If they have a problem with you moving your property then they call the cops. Shoot, that be freaking funny! Razz

I complain that even though a message you can deliver is perfectly clear to anyone with common sense, it seems that the use of one word - or the phrasing of the message in order to shorten it for speed and clarity - can come under intense and uncalled-for political scrutiny, which causes a detrimental, negative impact on your appearance when you were only trying to deliver a simple message.

I am in the hospital with my grandfather, they're doing tons of bloodwork on him and keeping him here. He's currently under watch from his own blood specialist and a GI specialist to hopefully find out what's wrong with him, plus he's got a heart monitor on him and tons of wires....

I've been here in this hospital ALLLLL DAY. And I just finally got someone to retrieve me my laptop. Soooo someone should get on IRC chat and chitty-chat with me while I sit in the hallway during Grampa's sleepy time. Don't want to disturb him but honestly, I'm wired as hell...

Whoa, it's really weird that you said that, since I was just thinking that same thing yesterday.

I was having a pretty bad day yesterday, but I was trying to stay positive by looking forward to it being the weekend and spending it back in the Quad Cities with Axiom Awaits, however then my Friday gets topped off with my boss asking me to come in to work Monday, so now I have to leave tomorrow night already and head back to the 'burbs to work full-time this week. I'm not happy about that at all. True, I'll make some more money, which I can use to live off of for when I move back to the Quad Cities next month, but I also consider my time really valuable too, especially since I don't have much of it.

That's one thing I'm looking forward to in finding a new job in the QC once I move back. My job basically takes 10 hours out of my day, leaving me with very little free time. I want to just be able to wake up, go to work, and come home before the sun has set. I want there to still be some time left in my day, rather than leaving work and getting home and just having about an hour before I go to bed. It's awful.

Warning: Petty Complaint Ahead.

The chances of her birthday being the same day of our third month anniversary, and I can't be there that day...? So, something completely incidental and won't ever happen again and can't really be fully made up for... I hate this more than anything.

I don't think that's a petty complaint at all, Mel. It's only natural to want to be with your love on an important milestone day, let alone two. I think anyone can understand your frustration. The important thing is that she knows you want to be there and that your heart is in the right place.

If you want a petty complaint, here's one. Lately one of my roommates has revived her annoying habit of setting an alarm, having it go off, and then snoozing it every ten minutes for over AN HOUR. And it's so loud I can easily hear it even with both our doors closed. So after waking up early to say goodbye to my boyfriend this morning before he left for work, I went back to bed for a couple more hours of sleep. And of course my roommate's alarm went off not long afterward, but at least she only snoozed it once before apparently going back to bed. Oh well, the damage was done, and I couldn't go back to sleep. At least I'll have more hours in the day to be productive? Grrrr...

And I won't see my boyfriend again until next week because he's going on vacation to visit his sister. I'm glad that he's going to have fun, but I'll still miss him...

Did get lucky, or things worked out, whichever, though and will now be able to leave tomorrow and be there tomorrow evening, a night before the two-in-one milestone. So that has me happy. Smile

Mel, I'm so glad it worked out for you. =D You didn't even have to turn back the clocks!

I am sad because I had to send my laptop off to Hospital Best Buy again. ): I knew this was coming because I was the one who wanted to bring it in before the warranty ran out in order to fix the broken internal microphone (which, I would like to point out, was not broken before I brought it in the first time. But whatever)

My main complaint is that even though they'll be fixing the microphone (hopefully), they won't actually end up fixing the actual problems (i.e., my computer randomly telling me that it doesn't have internet capabilities, and that I must insert driver software; that it's slow as molasses; that it freezes up the moment I try to copy anything to my external hard drive).

I also have to sit back and pray that it'll be back from the shop before I go back up to school. The guy said 2-3 weeks; two weeks is fine, but three weeks cuts into Lara-being-8-hours-away-at-band-camp.

I'm at the point where I feel I should have just kept it and dealt with the broken mic, but a small part of me is hoping that they'll find something wrong with it that they'll fix under warranty and somehow magically fix the other issues. (I'm also kind of hoping that, whether it's fixed or not, I can see about getting a new one for Christmas...I've had mine for a while.)

Having the fire alarm go off at 1:30 in the morning and rushing outside of my building last night was not cool. I was the first one outside, and so I didn't know whether to feel stupid or smart... The lights were all flashing everywhere, and the alarms were ringing. There even was a voice on the intercom in my bedroom saying, "May I have your attention please: There is a fire in the building. Please exit the building."

Finally, a small crowd of about a dozen or so people gathered outside, and then we were all let back in around 15 minutes later. However, it didn't end there. I fell back asleep only to be woken up exactly an hour later by the same thing! The alarm, the voice telling us to get the hell out, and not being sure what to do. That got turned off pretty quickly though, but then it went off again around 3:00 AM.

Needless to say, I am exhausted this morning after having run around last night. I still have no clue where the fire was or what caused it or even if there really was a fire. No one, not even the lady in charge here, knew anything.

Lara, computer problems suck, and I remember all too clearly how frustrating it was to deal with a super-slow old laptop before I got the one I currently have. I hope you get it back in a timely manner.

Fate, fire alarms also suck. I wanted to deck the idiots who kept setting off our fire alarm when I was in college. And of course, it was always during the most unholy hours of the night. But man, two in one night? I'm so sorry...

I complain that I've been unusually irritable today, which is completely unlike me. And it's all due to a bunch of little stressors that aren't bad individually, but they just stacked up and have not made for a fun day. I'm the treasurer for my swing dance association and grad school program, so I've had to go to two different banks on opposite sides of town, take the swing money downtown for Saturday night, and deal with obnoxious bank reps who pretty much harass and try to bribe me into opening an account with them. I've been doing all of this while it's 100+ degrees outside and today of all days is full of bad traffic and road construction, so it's absolutely miserable. And both organizations want me to do a bunch of budgeting work over the next couple of weeks while I'm working with both exec boards to plan major events and back to school stuff.

Normally my boyfriend is the calm, rational sounding board that keeps me from blowing up, but he's out of town on vacation and I feel bad ranting to him over text message when he should be having fun visiting his sister. Ugh...I need a hug before I just start crying for no reason...

Re: The Complaints Thread >:(

Post by Dreamless Days on Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:08 pm

I'd like to make a complaint.

[COMPLAINT STARTS HERE]

So, on Saturday night I went to my mates place to partay. Listen to tunes, catch up with my mates, hit on the pretty young women and get drunk. Overall, relax and have a good time. Instead however, a few drinks in, I have to sit there and have to listen to some douche-bag I've never met insult Catholicism (My chosen religion) with the usual jokes (all while he's dressed as a Catholic Priest). Then, after asking politely if he would mind not making such jokes while I am around (such as the understanding my friends and I have. Them being more or less all Atheists. I don't want to take their right to joking away, but they agree not to joke about that kind of thing while I am present), he instead ridiculed me for an hour straight about how he's an Atheist and that gives him to right to insult my religious choices, because of the fact that it WAS a choice, and not something forced upon me.

This whole thing meant I had to leave the party (by personal choice) to avoid any imminent violence on my end (when I drink I become much quicker to act on my emotions). Thus ruining my night.

The following morning, I get a call from work offering me a three hour shift (on a Sunday no less, meaning at my current rate almost $100), this is the first call I have gotten from them in almost a month (I'm struggling to find a second job). Though I desperately wanted the shift and the money, I am still recovering from the flu. And since I work in a place where I would have to both handle foodstuff and be in close quarters with customers, I had to give up the shift and thus, the money I could have used to pay my father back for car registration I now owe him due to my job barely giving me shifts.

[COMPLAINT ENDS HERE]

I am sorry you had to deal with a person like that Dreamless Days. There is nothing I dislike more than people who either try and push their beliefs on you or make fun of your beliefs. I am agnostic myself, and have had to deal with a lot of this, especially people trying to push their beliefs on me. I hope you won't have to deal with people like him again.

Now for my complaint of the day. I hate how once one thing goes wrong with my car, another thing follows quickly. I was supposed to go visit my friend today, who I haven't hung out with in awhile, when my car started sounding funny. Turns out something is wrong with the bearings. That is another few hundred down the drain.

Well I just got back from my weekend with Axiom, and now I'm back at my last week of work here in the suburb of Chicago before I move in with Axiom Awaits. I'm kind of nervous about all these changes though, like us needing to find jobs. He has a second interview tomorrow, which is good, but hopefully he can still help me get ready and move if he does have to start working already. Then we'll eventually have to move again to have a place of our own... So much stress!

I'm sure everything will be fine, Fate. I bet you're feeling excited now that it's finally arriving ((the move, I mean)).

I complain that UTA ((Utah Transit Authorities)) completely discontinued all of the bus routes near where I live. This means that until I can get a car of my own, I have to rely on Misery to drive me places, or I have to take taxis. It freaking sucks. I've been looking for a cheap car, and Misery said he'd pay for it though I'm definitely paying back every penny once I get a job. It just sucks that I can't just go the cheaper and more convenient route via bus any more. It's extremely depressing.
