The Six Empty The Six

Post by Copper.eyes Wed Oct 13, 2010 11:36 pm

She held her breath against the need to scream, her lungs burning against the pain of holding back. It did no good; the smell of thousands of bodies filtered in to her lungs anyway as she stared, over at the five that actually mattered. She reached towards them, her hands shaking, only to realize her fingers were coated in their crimson blood. The scream ripped through her throat, and her body jerked to a stop, as her head smashed in to the underside of the table above her.

She heard the pop as her skin tore under the pressure. She let out a curse but still forced herself to shake it all off. Her cellphone rang. Her limbs trembled as she rolled out from under the table and snatched it up. It had better be damn important, she thought viciously before flipping the thing open and putting it to the ear opposite her head wound. Now, as always, she had the urge to run and check on everyone else. This time, though, she stifled it; she was one of the oldest, after all, and she couldn’t show a sign of weakness--even if it cost her.

“Kata, speak,” she said, her voice short and sharp as she staunched her wound with a cloth--her bandanna, which she remembered tucking into her front pocket before finally submitting to sleep deprivation.

“Kata’rina, we have been trying to contact you and your team for the past twenty four hours for a new mission. Why have you had no contact?” The voice on the other end of the line sent a shiver of fear up her spine. It was a reaction long ago integrated into her system.

“Sir, I am sorry. There was a storm and all signal has been out for the past twenty-four hours.” Her voice was formal now, out of necessity, and her hand dropped the bandanna to the floor as training protocol took her over. Her shoulders snapped straight back, her eyes straight forward, and the hand that was not clutching the phone pinned perfectly to her body. Even though clearly the man couldn’t see her, her muscles bunched under her skin as if preparing for a beating as she waited for the man's reply.

“The new mission starts in a only a few hours. I need the others assembled and in the com room within the hour." His voice hadn’t changed at all; he still sounded pissed--which was actually when he was the safest--but the words he spoke next were softened dangerously, frightening her so that her eyes went wide, blood leaking in to them. ”And Kata’rina... don’t disappoint me,” he said, nearly crooned, into her ear. And then the line went dead.

She only gave her self a moment to let the pain howl through her ears before pressing the bandanna back to her head and rushing from the room to gather the others, her heart pounding with fear that she wouldn’t be in time.

She glanced at her watch, the nightmare and pain forgotten, as she pushed her bandanna back in to her pocket and hurried next door. She could hear Allister tinkering around with something or another inside. She hesitated before deciding she liked her face the way it was and would rather not be missing a few layers of skin. Rapping her knuckles quickly and loudly on the door, she brought her other hand up to wipe the blood away from her face. The hand shook slightly as she waited patiently for the man behind the door to answer.

Allister stifled a yawn as he fiddled with a small object on a table. He hadn't slept in, oh... 29 hours. It was no where near his record, but it still did tire him out a bit. He looked down towards the devise he was fiddling with and smiled slightly. It hadn't exploded yet, so that was a good sign. It was missing something, though luckily Allister had an idea of just what it could use. Adding the particular item on his mind should give his little devise a nice... kick. Well that is if it didn't explode in Allister's face simply from touching a few of the other components.

Allister moved to the other side of the lab, grabbing the item he wanted. That being, a twinkie. Well not a twinkie as a hole, but one chemical in the cream that could be separated out when dipped in lye. When mixed with a few of the other things Allister had put in his devise, namely Argon and detergent, it enhanced the explosive abilities of the mixture ten fold... well that was just if it didn't explode during the separation process. It was always tricky getting the right ratio of lye to twinkie. Other than that it was a simple task filtering the chemical out of the lye and adding it to the mixture.

Allister moved back to the table he was originally working on, and began mixing the lye with water. At this point it was crucial to get the right molarity for the lye, or shit would start to hit the fan. Luckily, Allister had done this at least a hundred times, and either way the explosion wasn't that bad. Last time he had measured wrong it hadn't even destroyed a single wall, so there was really not all that much to worry about. Allister stirred the .52 molarity mixture of lye he just made one last time before unceremoniously tossing the twinkie into it. Allister nonchalantly snapped his goggles down over his eyes and watched patiently. The mixture bubbled a few times, almost seeming on the verge of combusting at least twice before it settled down. Now on to the boring part. Allister began to pour the mixture through a filter when he heard a loud knock on the lab door. SIghing, he poured the last bit into the filter before taking a cigarette out of his pocket and lighting it with a Bunsen burner. He calmly opened the door to his lab to see Kata'rina standing outside with a cut on her forehead.

"Need something?"

“I’m not interrupting am I?” Kata’s voice was neutral as she looked up at him; at least until she saw the cigarette hanging from his lips.” Kill your self if you want, but let the rest of us live.” She growled the words out before snatching the thing from his mouth and tossing it on the floor a few feet away. “I can’t believe you are still smoking those things they poison your lungs and those around you.” She curled her lip at him; annoyance flickering across her face.” And I can’t imagine it being safe with all the stupid chemicals you play with.” Her hands moved to her hips and her jaw clenched.

Shaking her head she forced her overly tired mind back on the task at hand.” Alsatian wants us down in the coms room,” Her voice changed from annoyed back to flat and her eyes went distant as she looked over his shoulder not really seeing anything. She hated saying his name, his name meant death to her. It was a child’s terror that never seemed to go away even as she grew in to adult hood and could probably take him out if she wanted.

“I want you down there, as soon as possible there is a new mission that we have nearly missed because of the black outs.” She shrugged her shoulders but her arms moved around her waist in almost a protective manner before forcing them away. “Leave the smokes at home.” She turned on her heels and started towards the elevators knowing that she needed to get down to the bottom floor and grab the five others including her brother who she knew would be awake even at five in the morning. The others…well she’d have some fun waking them up maybe it would make this day a little more worth being awake.

The Six Empty Re: The Six

Ryan's eyes jarred open, now awake. Music was playing in the dark room he was in, through headphones. One of which was in his ear, the other was dangling at his chest. He had only slept for about six hours before he had awoken abruptly. Realizing he was still in his albeit comfy, office chair, he stiffened up quickly and sat up. His computer monitors were all off or on hibernate save two. One of which looked like it was downloading something, the other of which looked like it contained server information in several hundreds of locations, probably more. These two monitors were the only sources of light in the room now, save his mp3 player in his lap, that had fallen to the floor once he awoken.

The blue-ish dim light glanced off his long desk, his wrinkled blue jeans, black t-shirt, and across his carpeted floor. Running a hand over his face he had realized he shouldn't be sleeping here yet again, and needed to get some amount of sleep in his bed for a change. Blinking his eyes feverishly, he yanked the earbuds from his ear, and looked down and reached for the rectangular mp3 player. Wadding up the earbud cord with the handheld device, he softly tossed it to the side of his desk, to the nearest of three strategically placed keyboards. Standing finally, he had exhaled in a bit of a sigh after swallowing. He stretched, a bit, long, relieving stretch, and groaned under his breath before he waddled to the door of his office, running his right hand through his hair, itching the top of his head. Looking out the thing, long window that ran the length of his office door, he saw shadow movement.

Lazily opening the door, he saw Kata making a line for the Elevator. He didn't ask anything just yet, maybe having been undetected. He supported his body weight on a hand on the doorway before leaning halfway out into the hall, looking toward Allister's office... more like lab. The door was open, and the light appeared to be on...

Stepping into the hallway, the light bothered his eyes. He raised his left hand and placed his thumb and middle finger on his eyes , rubbing them, he made his way for Allister's door. Groggy, and zombie-like.
