Allow me to bring you guys into the first ever comic review on FOG. Now, seeing as how Squalleh and I are the only two "comic nerds" that are regulars on FOG (as far as I know)l, it is our sole mission in this department to bring you graphic novels, trades or those wonderful weekly floppies that we love so very much...or that we hate dearly.

Yes, we're looking at you, Final Crisis and Ultimatum.

Anyways! Today's graphic novel is.....

THE SCOTT PILGRIM SERIES
By: Brian O'Malley
Publihed By: Oni Press

Alright! Scott Pilgrim is the brain-child of Canadian write and illustrator, Brian O'Malley. If you've never had the chance to check out this AMAZING book, then here are the current specifics: There are currently five volumes that have been published, with each book priced at exactly $11.95 each. The artistic style is the same kind that you'd see in a manga book (You know...big eyes, black and white, things like that.) but there are so many thing that make this series better than your average manga.

1.) Rather than focusing on some super powered bunch of aliens from some far away planet that can turn into giant monkeys, the Scott Pilgrim books focus more on the human side of things. Sure, there are those things that are just like any other comic book or manga, but you can't help but relate to Scott Pilgrim and his friends.

Also, above all else, it's a love story. Yes, ladies, a love story in a comic book: I was shocked, too.

2.) O'Malley does an amazing job with combining the usual comic book/manga style with other aspects, such as music and video games. I mean, seriously, when is the last time you ever saw Batman "level up" or get an extra life? And Spiderman playing bass? Fat-fucking-chance.

3.) As the people who contribute to this blog know, I am an avid supporter of pirates in their on-going struggle against the ninja scourge, but that doesn't mean that I'm against ninjas altogether, and O'Malley gave me my ninja fix in the best kind of way!

Teenagers possessed by fox demons? Fuck that. Give me a blond half-ninja on roller skates any day.

Bottom line, these books are a must-have for any avid comic book reader, and the crossover value is amazing: If you have someone in your life that doesn't believe that comics are a great medium for literature, these books may just change the way that they feel.

Honestly, Canada never looked so good.

P.S. For those of you that didn't know, there's also an SP movie that's on its way into theaters this summer. For those of you on Facebook, they just released a new trailer last night so you should go ahead and go check that out. Till then, here's the trailer Very Happy

**************

Please be very aware that this was an almost word for word copypasta from the blog that Squalleh and I were doing, so I do realize that it's not only our job to inform you guys, but to have you guys inform us as well. This is a place to discuss comics, arcs, characters, publishers and anything else you want to think of.

Have fun and keep reading, guys Very Happy

Glad to find some other comics fans on here. I'm one as well, albeit one limited to trades and Marvel Digital Comics by the lack of a comic shop anywhere near where I live. I haven't yet read Scott Pilgrim, but I would really like to and your review only increases my curiosity, Gunneh.

I didn't know there were other comic nerds here as well! I don't get around to reading nearly as many of them as I would like, also due to the fact that I have to drive an hour for the only comic shop in the 'area'. The other nearest one I know is equal distance, and the final one I know that exists is three and a half hours away. Dedication much? Yes.

Anyway, this sounds like it'd be a great read. Thanks for being to us few comic nerds the review of The Scott Pilgrim Series. Are you going to write any more reviews now that you've got a fanbase? Teehee.
