Ouch... That really sucks. I've had that happen to me in the past. It's the worst. You could always start another book until then? =\

Is it too late to jump in on this? 8D I kinda tl;dr'ed most of the first post. ^^; This is definitely one of my new year's resolutions -- I made it to about 16 books last year, but I'm further along this year on my list than I was this time last year, so .... Smile

It's never too late. Your year starts whenever you want. You also don't have to read fifty books for your year. You can read anywhere from twelve to an infinite amount. hahah

I read through the whole Dresden series, too, and the Ender Saga, Discworld and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in the past year, but the counter starts now, I guess. Smile

2. Mat Buckland, Programming Game AI by Example, 474 pages
3. Elfer Coin, Artemis Fowl
4. Kevin Mitnick, The Art of Deception, 335 pages
5. Kevin Mitnick, The Art of Intrusion, 291 pages

Re: 50 Book Challenge!!!

Post by vitamin_kitten on Tue Feb 23, 2010 1:45 am

Alright, so I'm jumping on this bandwagon a bit late, but I think it'll be fun to have encouragement from other people trying to read 50 books in a year too. My list isn't 50 books long right now, because it's the leftovers from last year's attempt at this, but I'm adding books to it as I come across new ones I wanna read. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to throw them at me. Smile

o1. The Heretic's Daughter
o2. Tithe
o3. Valiant
o4. Ironside
o5. In the Forests of the Night
o6. Demon in my View
o7. Shattered Mirror
o8. Rivalry
o9. The Private Papers of Eastern Jewel
1o. Havemercy
11. The Last Unicorn
12. Making History
13. College Girl
14. Marley and Me
15. Paint it Black
16. Kushiel's Dart
17. Kushiel's Chosen
18. Kushiel's Avatar
19. Kushiel's Scion
2o. Kushiel's Justice
21. Kushiel's Mercy
22. Gone with the Wind
23. 1984
24. Sabriel
25. Lirael
26. Abhorsen
27. The Art of Racing in the Rain
28. Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure
29. Lolita
3o. Kitchen
31. Cut
32. Brave New World
33. House of Leaves
34. It's Kind of a Funny Story
35. Nightlight
36. Dead Until Dark
37.
38.
39.
4o.
41.
42.
43.
44.
45.
46.
47.
48.
49.
5o.

4/50

I guess I'm using the same key as everyone else -- bold is what I'm reading now, and strikethroughs I've finished reading. Sorry, I'm lazy and don't have authors or page counts. Maybe I'll add that later. XD

You're not late! Someone could join this in July or in December, and they would still be right on time.

The little benchmarks really aren't all that important to anyone other than the person who's doing it. The only one to which I pay attention is the number of books read. It's easier if a user keeps that one in their list so I don't have to count every strike that's been made.

I may just join this challenge, if it gives me an excuse to use this computer for something important like, I'unno, schoolwork >_>.

I'll have a list up soon. Expect a journey through obscure science fiction novels and other topics the likes of which none have ever seen before.

I've finally started reading again, and I finished the book in two days! So that is two books down for me. Still plunging through those textbooks, but I'm almost done with them. I have some catch-up reading to do.

Slow going considering I should be completing one book per week, but I'm definitely reading more often due to this challenge.

I'm glad you're reading again, Silvone!

Psychotic, the challenge is just something fun to attempt. It doesn't really matter if people really complete it. It's just gives a purpose toward reading more often. I really wanted to read more, and I thought others here would like to do the same. I'm glad that it's actually working. ^^_^^

I wanted to wait until I was starting a new book to begin this challenge...and what better way to kick it off than with the first book in the second trilogy of Kushiel's Legacy? ^^ I don't think I'll actually be completing this challenge, but...I suppose we'll see! With the seemingly endless journey of my undergraduate education coming to its conclusion in two days, I should have more time to read for leisure. Perhaps I can finish my fifty books after all! At the very least, I'll be reading as much as I can throughout the year, to keep both my mind sharp and my inspiration flowing.

1. Kushiel's Scion by Jacqueline Carey 943 pages
2. Kushiel's Justice by Jacqueline Carey

Just updated mine. I didn't realize I have started so many books and not finished them. I blame college for only making me read parts when I want to read the whole thing and then get stuck doing that over the summer. I did finish my second book though.

Congratulations, Moira! You're our first to complete the challenge, and you've done it quite speedily. ^^_^^

If you want to enlarge your yearly total, feel free. You may also choose to start over again. If you increase the number of books you want to read this year, I'll still add you to the list of those who have completed their challenge ((because you originally began with fifty, and you've achieved that)), but you'll remain as a participant with an increased number. If you choose to start again, you can use the same post or make a fresh one.
